Still loving this. But my fiancé reallly dislikes it which sucks because she is the one who got me into him in the first place!

Apparently a lot of people really hate this record, which is kind of surprising to me.

  4. I refuse to give that man views even out of hatred, but my brother texted me that that Anthony Ronald McDonald/needledrop clown panned the album. Which is proof that it's fucking awesome.

  5. Yes I posted his name just for the giddy joy of Jason's coded autocorrect why do you ask?

Of course he did. I have never watched that guy's videos and do not plan to start now.

I realize I may be the only one that feels this way, but Sturgill seems like a bit of a dick. I love his music, I just find him a bit annoying sometimes.

I actually assumed he had a good relationship with his label because of all of the wild shit he did with this new album haha.

Can't say I'd want to interview him/spend any time with him one on one. Haha

He seemed pleasant enough during the Trillbillies interview.

Finally got to sit down and read this interview. Can't disagree with him much about the music industry machine, but I thought the digs at Dave Cobb (and to a lesser extent Chris Stapleton) were really unnecessary.

if he feels that way about his experience of making his own record, i don’t really see why he shouldn’t speak on it

My issue is more with him claiming credit for his album giving Dave Cobb a career, which is just patently false and wildly arrogant. Cobb’s been hustling for years, and Southeastern was before Metamodern anyway.

I dunno, I love Sturgill and the new record, but the whole interview has a real “old man yells at cloud” vibe to it.

Maybe he can’t for legal reasons, but I wish he’d be more specific about the label stuff. Like if you just take a step back and look at it, he made exactly the record he wanted to make - which is not currently a very marketable sound - for which he did no press because he hates press, plus he got to make his crazy anime movie and now he gets to do an arena tour which I’m sure he’ll make plenty of money off of (the article mentions he lives on a 150 acre piece of land!).

I have no doubt the music business is shady and shitty, and he may have some legitimate grievances, but it sure looks like he got to do whatever he wanted and made out like a bandit.

I think that’s my main issue with him as well. Every time he talks it seems to be nothing but negativity or complaining and he always comes off as extremely arrogant. It honestly kind of reminds of how I use to view Ryan Adams prior to all of the abuse stuff.
