I always wondered how Daily Show and Colbert Report selected which artists to have on their shows. Aside from the fact that they typically chose NPR favorites, the frequency and genres seemed so random.
I think they have someone (maybe multiple?) whose job it is to book bands/artists for the shows. I'm sure they get pitched a lot as well from agents and the like - and they look at what's coming out, what's getting buzz, what's popular, and things like that to make the final call.
I was trying to figure out yesterday where he was going to chart. I've seen it advertised all over the place, and it seems like everyone was buying the new album on RSD. If that was a planned move it was really smart on their part.
