It was 50% this, and 50% Jason. I spoke with somebody close to the band and I was told they wrote an albums worth of music (after Songs of Armor/Devotion) with RJ, that Jason refused to sing on because it was "too metal". Jason also told Jake he isn't allowed to tour with them anymore since he joined the Gimmes. Jason also had Jake's contributions/solos on the new alum removed/rewritten. These 3 new songs are decent but the mixes are some of the worst mixes I've heard in modern music.
was it heavier than Songs Of Armor And Devotion or in the same vein? because they knocked it out with their last album, i was very pleased when it came out. i remember getting super excited when they dropped Under The Western Sky before the album came out. such a solid fun riffy record.
Yeah I could see it fitting on SOAAD, but it's definitely poppier and more upbeat. I'm thinking Jake's material may emerge on the new Implants album. Fingers crossed.

Missed the news this was coming. Digging the singles but yeah productions a little thin the snare sounds like cardboard on new gods
I totally get the aesthetic they’re going for lol it just sounds a little dated in 2024. thankfully the songs hold up white owls rips I love the classic dual guitar leads (it’s why blackhawks is my favorite album by them)
Anybody listen to this yet? I don't hate it, but it's a pretty big departure from the classic Strung Out sound. Jason clearly wanted to sing differently on this one. The album mainly suffers from big hooks/earworms. Yeah the guitars sound good, the drums sound great, but the vocals are just way too up front and it distracts from everything else going on. The only song that Jake wrote/contributed to, is Plastic Skeletons, and it shows...
Just got through my first listen and it's much better than I expected it to be given that none of the singles connected with me. Definitely better than the last record, but they are definitely in the 3rd act of their career.
While this is better than the last for me, of the modern era Strung Out, Transmission Alpha Delta is king.
