Jonathan really sucks that first season, like a lot. So does Steve but at least his famous character growth had already started in the last two episodes. Only thing that bothers me about the photo of the Demogorgon, which is dope, is that it makes no damn sense that it would be in any of the photos he took of Barb. You see Jonathan winding his camera for like five minutes while the whole blood-drip-in-pool, Demogorgon-attack sequence happens.
Did Nancy give a reason? It seems out of character for neither of them to be going, even to a cheap school for him. She especially would do great at IU for journalism.
I'm actually really glad there hasn't been any more stuff with bullies, that's like the least interesting cliche this show could be doing
It will be interesting to see when the next season takes place and whether or not school comes up at all. I want more Mr. Clarke if nothing else.
I would expect any kind of reference to it if that was the case. Plus the scene at the end with Jonathan moving away only really worked as the “shared trauma” they talked about if neither of them had already moved out or knew they would be separated for most of the year. They would have already processed that separation even if Joyce stayed in town if he wasn’t going to college but she was. EDIT: Apparently Natalia has fought tooth and nail for Nancy to never go to college. I don’t know if I really buy that for the character, but at least that clears part of it up.
And unrelated, but the lines about Hopper being The American are waaaaaay more obvious on second watch.
I'm dyyying right now, fucking love Mr. Clarke . David Harbour gets so genuinely excited to see him lol
Really enjoyed this season but thought a few characters got the short end of the stick this season. I loved Steve but thought his character was a bit different from last season. Jonathan and Nancy weren't utilised very well and I wasn't a fan of Hopper for a lot of it. Overall a really good season and I enjoyed it even more than S2.
Only a few episodes into the new season but I absolutely love Max and El using El's powers to just like spy on people because they're trying to goof off and forget the boys hahaha
What are most people's thoughts against Chernobyl? I agree that I don't want it to be a center of a lot of screen time, but I could totally buy the event messing with a gate in even more grotesque ways.
Liking S2 on rewatch, but it definitely feels like a sophomore slump between the other two seasons. I feel like El getting back into our universe was a little too convenient - just walking back through a portal on the school wall within a matter of a couple minutes Was she just living in the woods without a home during the winter when Hopper would just leave Eggos in a box? Why wouldn't he bring them to the house like when he goes to have dinner with her in S2?
Just not into the idea. Feels forced, weird, disrespectful and a bunch of other things. There's plenty of other ways they can go where it even feels lazy.
Yeah making any sort of scifi spin on Chernobyl is very disrespectful to those who died and continue to suffer from it. It's like making a film where monsters are really what took down the twin towers on 9/11. People would lose their minds. I don't see anything wrong with them making a casual mention that it happened on the news or something because of the timing of the season, but only if it's accurate to what really happened. We don't need any crazy conspiracy theories to a real tragedy.
I understand where you are coming from, but there are a lot of movies that explore an alt universe based on tragedies. Specifically WW2/Nazi Germany.
But for three seasons this hasn't been one of those ... which is why I think it would feel out of place if they went that way this long into the world.
