I don't understand how he wasn't vaporized like the Russians if he ends up being alive, he was even closer to the thing than they were
He's also on the other side of the energy bursting out after he sends the Russian into it. Only other way was into it. They clearly showed the Russian scientists exploding, and avoided having shown anything Hop relating afterwards.
Come on guys, it was carefully set up if you paid attention. There was a reason for the season’s excellent opening sequence that showed what happens when you’re in the same vicinity of the explosion. Then there was the obvious running gag with Hopper being referenced as “The American”. And finally, there’s the ending which does show Hopper looking at the portal before the explosion and then having the post credit sequence set in Russia. He definitely went through that portal and ended up captive from the Russia portal. That’s the only thing that makes sense. He ain’t dead though. Next season is in 1986. With Russia still heavily involved with the plot - next season has to center around Chernobyl, right?
I can't imagine anyone thinking its a good idea to trivialize Chernobyl by including it in ST as a plot point.
I can’t think of any other real world event they’ve tied into the series like that either, so it would feel pretty different in tone. It’s more like Mad Men where we see some history unfold but nothing that directly influences or impacts our actual world history like that being a result of anything that happens in the show itself.
I was going to say that that’s not really similar to putting a real-life tragedy into the show, but then I realized my error. The only thing I can think of that’s even vaguely in the same ballpark would be MKUltra, but so much of that is still tied to conspiracy theories that it didn’t seem out of place to bring in. It’s also one of the darkest aspects of the show ever, so it didn’t feel like they were trivializing what the subjects went through. Bringing Chernobyl in explicitly would jump over that line immediately.
Hmm, it's not loading for me now either. It was just a meme about Mike aging, and by Season 20 he was Snape/Alan Rickman lol
That’s more believable, honestly. I didn’t even remember it mentioning her at all! I feel so ashamed.
Dang, I've forgotten a lot from this show without realizing, glad to start the rewatch. Totally forgot that Johnathan literally got a photo of the demogorgan. That's rad. You know what isn't though? Taking photos of Nancy changing from the bushes. Creepy. Also, Johnathan telling Nancy that he's going to continue letting his mom think she could be losing her mind until "he stops the monster himself" is kind of a dickish thing to do. Especially when his dad is trying to regain control of the house by belittling her intelligence and sanity. Forgot about them using compasses to get to the lab. That was a neat idea. Man, I love their science teacher. I love how excited he gets for the boys' desire to learn. Dustin cracking a joke at Will's funeral because they know he's alive and Mike's mom shushing him, omg lmao. Those school bullies should seriously be in prison. They were going to straight up MURDER Mike at that cliff and nearly succeeded. Hopper being caught and waking up in his home was such a weird turn. They must have thought it'd be too suspicious for a police officer to go missing, I guess.
