the score the s u r v i v e boys did this season feels like their best collection yet, too. maybe less iconic than s1 songs but probably “better.”
When I rewatched the Will/Mike you don't like girls yet, I think the obvious hint is either he's gay or doesn't like girls yet, but I took it a completely different way. In season one, when Will is missing, Joyce tells hopper the kids call him gay. And then the town bullies say something like "I bet some other queer killed him." So upon re-watch, the takeaway I had was that that hit will so hard because Mike was using the same kind of insult all of Will's previous bullies had used. Kind of like "I thought you were my friend, but you're just like everyone else" kinda thing
"Hi, you have reached the residence of Murray Bauman," the message begins. "Mom, if this is you, please hang up and call me between the hours of 5 and 6 p.m. as previously discussed, OK? If this is Joyce, Joyce, thank you for calling, I have been trying to reach ya. I have an update. It's about, well, its probably best if we speak in person. It's not good or bad, but it's something." "If this is anyone but my mother or Joyce, well, you think you're real clever, getting my number, don't ya?" the long message continues. "Well, here's some breaking news for you: You're not clever. You're not special. You are just simply one of the many, many nimwits to have called here, and the closest you will ever get to me is this prerecorded message so at the beep, do me a favor and hang up and never call here again. You are a parasite! Thank you and good day."
I don't know, I feel like "best if we speak in person" means it's not him in jail. If it was him, I don't think they'd be able to actually speak in person. And then "it's something" makes it seem like he knows who it is.
yeah I thought we were going to get more of that as well, felt super Twin Peaks and I was into it. however I still love what they did. this season was such a blast. It definitely shifted in tone, but I think it worked, time as passed, characters have grown, it's summer time. really a great effort, lot of fun, while still having some great creepy stuff.
Only 4 episodes in but God this season is awesome. I will say I feel like they've kind of done a 180 with Hopper. He showed a lot of growth prior to this season and just turns into a huge asshole again. But I still find myself rooting for him somehow. I think Will was a biiit ridiculous about being so pissed at Lucas and Mike. Mike hit the nail on the head "did you think we were never going to get girlfriends and sit in my basement playing DnD forever?" It's sad, but it's also realistic. A break up is hard on a teenage kid, so of course they're going to be upset about it. Not to say that Mike wasn't a huge dick about it, including being a disrespectful jerk to Hopper. I did wanna smack the kid when he did that in the car, I couldn't imagine acting like that towards a girlfriend's dad haha. People excusing it as "he's just 14" is weird. I would never have been that way toward an authority figure as a kid. But shit, they've really upped the horror this season and things picked up quick. I can't imagine what was going on through that lifeguards' parents' minds seeing their seemingly perfect daughter brutally assaulting them like that. Horrifying.
I wish Will could have seen more of Dustin and El this season. El understands the kind of arrested development that Will is stuck in and would probably be kinder to him about wanting to play games and stuff, and Dustin felt the same alienation from the group once he got back from camp. It’s too bad everything kicked off at the same time so they couldn’t just work on the friendships.
"You can't spell America without Erica" got a good laugh out of me. Dustin's reaction to that was great lol.
My wife has been watching trying to catch up to season 3. Just came home from work and the snow ball scene is on. So good
Soundtrack is incredible - "Starcourt" hit me direct in the FEELS, jeez - memories of growing up, life with family, life with friends, incredible, meaningful moments, vacations, parties, first everything - guhhh
If you wanted a related hit in the feels, check out this track "Kids (Reprise)" by The Midnight The kids are sad The sky is blue There are monsters in the spare bedroom Kids grow up And move away They closed the plant Then the mall arcade The kids are sad Their Parents too Kids get high in the spare bedroom We grow up And move away The seasons pass but the monsters stay
"The First I Love You" really stood out to me first listen. whenever they used those synthesised vocal sounds (like the song that plays when they're sitting around at Jocye's after Bob dies in s2, not sure of the name) it's absolutely gorgeous
That Billy shit at the beginning of the season was so uncomfortable. Finished it today, honestly liked it a lot more than I expected. I don't really know why any of it happened, and a lot of it was very goofy, but it was entertaining. Is Hopper the only cop in this town? Kids are breaking into and robbing stores and shopping malls with such a cavalier attitude it's absurd. Hopper is for sure not dead. I hope the next season is the last, they really can't push this much further
same with destroying the fort, or whatever it's called. and i love the way the ceiling is beautiful disintegrates.
