  1. recently finished a rewatch of the first three seasons and a first watch of 4 and 5 and i really just have one question

did vecna give nobody else jim carrey grinch vibes at times with the prosthetic-induced underbite/speech pattern thing going on?

I always thought Vecna looked so corny that he wasn’t scary at all. Henry in the last season I thought was scary though.

I've heard the Vecna voice is the actor's actual voice without effects

Jamie definitely can do a very low scary voice but there's no way they don't put a little bit of an effect on top of it

I heard Vecna is how the actor really looks in real life. His human form is just a constant visual effect.

I probably should stop watching this doc. Everything they're saying makes everything even more frustrating. Just even in the first five minutes. "We went into finale with no script." "We didn't want loose ends". The stuff with El. Like, you missed all the marks dudes.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I haven't watched it yet but apparently there's footage of them full on using ChatGPT while writing in it too? certainly a choice to release that to the public if so lol

But if they didn't have a finished script for 8 then how did they have time to film 9? So confusing!

It kind of feels like the Duffer Bros were just tired of the stranger things world and wanted to get it done and over with. Having worked on nothing else for 10 years, I get it, but also, c'mon bros.

    These lines:

    - While planning the final battle, a writer suggested there should be Demogorgons, Demodogs, or Demobats in the Abyss — saying it would be crazy if they weren’t there.

The idea was ultimately scrapped due to “demo fatigue.”

    - No one understood the point of Holly including Natalia

Alone are damning. What a dumb idea, this makes the season and show look even worse lol

Im not sure if im just coming from this with different exceptations. Season 5 was the worst season for sure but I wasnt really expecting too much i guess. I feel fulfilled enough. The Duffers gave me a decade of entertainment. I'll take it

El dying/disappearing was a good choice imo and hey all you needed was ending with them playing D&D and its all good

There's a convo from the writers room about El's fate. It was very annoying and pandering. I need more of you to watch it by EOD so we can rant about it tomorrow.

I will say, the set designers, stunt coordinators, etc. are all very cool parts of the doc. The brothers, writers, producers are all exhausting.

Another interesting thing I took from it, was one of the boys (I think it was Mike), said when they shot season 1 they were all kids and goofing and being silly on set, and the scripts were written to that. The later seasons, especially 5, it does feel like they are just acting, especially Will.

Sheesh. I am feeling super duper melancholy today. The final scene and David Bowie heroes photo montage really stuck with me.

Something about seeing the cast grow up? That has to be adding to it. They were babies.

I know personally this show has a lot of significance. The show legit came out the week of my first date with my wife. I had also just turned 30 years old. This show was essentially the first show we liked/watched together. Also, our first trip as a couple was us going to a stranger things pop up bar in Washington DC for a night

And yesterday we watched the finale in the last night in our apartment. Married of 7 years (together for 10). Im about to turn 40 soon. And literally moving into our first house today! Moving boxes as we speak.

    Allllllllll the feels

People joke that Vecna looks like the Grinch but he really reminds me far more of the Cryptkeeper, except not unhinged.

I have an hour left and the doc rules. More of the bts deep dive I was hoping for. I’ve never used chat gpt but from my lived experience there’s the people that use it to mindlessly ask about things, and other people use it to organize ideas, find patterns, and make their processes more succinct. I am firmly not into AI personally for my own life, but to assume chat gpt immediately means a creator is so cooked on ideas they’re asking ai to write the ending to one of the biggest shows of the last decade is a very silly assumption. Particularly when you are watching them ideate in real time. They say so explicitly 11 represents magic and childhood wonder and she can’t be present for the end. It was the question of if she dies or if she leaves them, and how the events go down. I’m completely satisfied with the motif and how it was actually told was satisfying emotionally resonant even though it wasn’t the most mind blowing thing I’ve seen. The way they let it sit at the DND table was rad. I still kick around if I believe she’s dead or not and I like that.

This gave mega prequels doc vibes which shows the reality of movie making. Pretty courageous to let the audience in imo. I never tire of Vecna doing deeply human things. Him with the umbrella and wearing headphones got me lol.

I continue to be so fascinated by the cultural response to the end of this show. Thanks! I HATE IT!!!
