Interrupting all... (gestures wildly)... this, to say that we're rewatching Season 3, almost done, and I love how Resident Evil coded it is with the fleshy morphing monsters, the infection that makes people do weird shit, the secret lab beneath a public area, the secret codes, the giant frickin laser. It's so b-film. I love it.
So what did we all think of the actual finale?? I really didn't expect the Vecna/Hopper/Joyce love triangle. but kudos to the Duffs for taking a big swing!
I almost created an episode 9 discussion post in the stranger things subreddit but didn't wanna get booted lol
Man I am so intrigued by the internet response to the finale. I feel people just don’t know how to feel sad about things ending or they have such a need to have a take immediately. IMO the ending reflects how 80’s movies and shows ended like big Indiana Jones, Return of the Jedi vibes where the main cast rides off into the sunset. Like instead of people talking about what a ride it has been and how much they continue to think about it there needs to be a grand conspiracy and a lot of picking every moment apart. Whether you loved it or not it CLEARLY had pretty significant emotional resonance for the internet to still be flooded with takes and memes. I just think the internet wants it to be as unsatisfying as GOT or Lost and imo that just isn’t the case. It’s been a week and I catch myself thinking about it a lot. I also really want to rewatch the finale, but I want to savor how fun the ride was before seeing it again and noticing new things, or recontextualizing it knowing the plot from start to finish. Psyched for the doc coming. I guess the Duffer brothers had been sick the week of the release and their interviews were pretty tepid. I am still hoping for an in depth breakdown and interview that discusses the whole series now that the ending is over.
Rewatching season 1 again, and I think this show is better served as one long binge. I think history will look back on this far better than it does Game of Thrones.
The sad thing about the crazies to me is this show not only did more fan service in the finale than 90% of other shows, it also somehow actually mostly nailed those aspects. Truly cannot make everyone happy
I just truly can not get my head to a place where I can understand “how are the not gonna show us Dustin breaking up with Suzie!?!?!?!?” Just a big ‘ol who fucking cares
That’s such an easy one to clean up too. Just have Steve drop a line about it when he and Dustin are arguing.
I don’t remember Suzie or Owens, like I watch this shit once and then it takes forever for a new season to come out, I really only remember the kids, some parental figures and “must kill bad monster guy”, so I had none of these problems
