In other news, I read that Millie Bobby Brown actually showed up at the finale viewing at my local theater. That's pretty dope.
just finished. the rooftop scene and D&D scenes were good. absolutely did not care about all the silly nonsense hijinks that got them to the end point. can't believe they didn't kill anyone
I also was surprised they didn’t go this route. There could have been a pretty cool scene where the black dust is leaving Eleven but through the roof. Her keeping her powers was a move. They did talk a lot about the 80’s motif about her being the one that brought in the supernatural though ET style where the gifted individual pops in and pops out as a vehicle for change and adventure. I am assuming that is why she kept her powers. Also though there were visual cues that the Mind Flayer was cooked, who knows how that dimension works / what special rules it abides by. From a myth perspective Eleven having to continue her journey alone if she survived is a pretty common trope. Frodo, Kind Arthur, Luke in TLJ. We get the end of a chapter in these epic stories, but they continue on in ways people generally do not like. It’s a part of the heroes journey though. I’ve really enjoyed this whole finale experience. It was way more emotionally resonant than I thought. My wife and I had just moved to a new state and it was pre becoming parents time when season one dropped. Season 3 was pre covid. This show was a real marker in time in early adulthood for me.
I didn't suggest that her powers are actually gone. I suggested that a possible different ending could be that she just doesn't have them anymore and they all live happily ever after haha. No need for illusions or talking to Mike in a dreamlike sequence
sorry if this has already been discussed, there's a lotta pages here. but I thought it was wild that Eleven was like "I can make the jump on the floating stuff, believe in me" and then they just....didn't show that at all
TBF she'd already shown she could do the jumps, I was cool with them saving on that part of the CGI budget to spend it elsewhere lol
Speaking of jumping, I think the flamethrower boys (I think it was Mike and Jon?) in the finale learned how to do it too, cause how did they get on top of the canyon so quickly.
One of my favorite absurd moments was that Murray was just present for the final Hopper Eleven moment.
I know shipping culture is not for everyone, but it's very clear that the showrunners could've shut down the possibility of Byler happening years ago, but instead decided to drag Will's crush for Mike into a multi-season arc, and make the status of Mike & El's relationship unstable, ambiguous, & reliant on Will. If you actually want to understand why people got so invested in the Byler ship, this is a good video, but if you don't care then you can just ignore this whole post no hard feelings.
Yeah I’ve been seeing people post conspiracy theories about a secret 9th episode. They can’t accept the ending didn’t go the way they wanted so they have to convince themselves it will in a hidden episode. Bizarre
I don't care to watch those videos (who tf is Emma Lucille????) but that tweet from the stranger things writers is kinda fucked up lol
Please call me out if this happened in earlier seasons, I haven't rewatched S1-3 since before S4 came out, but One of my main beefs with this season (and last) is just how overly monologuey and unrealistic most of the dialogue is. It absolutely destroys any tension in a scene and if I ever do rewatch it, I can see myself just skipping past a lot of them. How many times do we need to get beaten over the head with Hopper's trauma? It would have been so much more interesting if during the scene where Max was explaining to Holly how she has to find her own exit blah blah, if Vecna just showed up and wrecked shit, because that is what they deserved with the lack of urgency. Or if during Eleven's long speech before heading to the Abyss, the other characters were actually in danger and her taking all that time resulted in losing someone - there are just zero consequences to absolutely wasting time this season. And the things they could have explored - like say, Nancy's turn to straight up murdering military dudes, and how that would affect her mental state - does not get acknowledged at all. Jonathan even references her getting drunk, but when was that ever shown to us? I know, ultimately this is just a tween adventure show, and it was pretty good overall, but it just feels like it could have been so much better.
I thought it was nonsense too, but I’ve seen a few videos and threads about it and I’m kind of starting to believe it. If you’re curious, they’re using the hashtag #conformitygate.
Yeah you would have an easier time convincing me if it ended right after the battle, but not after a freaking hour long epilogue lol Still couldn't convince me, though
