Finale was great. Pretty much washed the taste of the previous 3 episodes out. I kinda wish I watched it in a theater
Really loved it, hit all the right marks for me. No idea how the military let them go lol. And now I really want that Lego set
They always stick the landing, and that was absolutely one of the best episodes of the show ever. Saved the show, honestly. It's crazy how elevated the episode feels compared to the rest of the season, although in fairness the season will probably be better on rewatch knowing where it leads. So, so happy, cause I was ready to be so, so bummed.
the Steve fakeout on the tower really got me, I was like oh shit they’re actually gonna do it for a split second
Some really satisfying moments and some really awful dialogue, sfx, and choices. Not sure they totally stuck the landing but after 10 years it’s good enough I guess.
I think believing that Eleven is actually dead is a more satisfying ending for me. I just don't think the timeline works with Kali for how fatal her wound is meant to be and how slowly the rest plays out after that, that she would still be alive enough to do what was required. The Mind Flayer coming to life was really great tbh and probably made me remember that Season 3 is my favourite of this show. I think the rest is fine, and I think my biggest criticism is that this was all quite low stakes in the end. Someone else said they were whelmed and yeah its fine, I'm glad it wasn't bad but there's a lot of what could have been with the show overall.
Finale was a great watch, but it also kinda laid bare the flaws of the previous two seasons in a kind of odd way. So many loose threads were never resolved or shouldn't have been introduced in the first place. Epilogue was fun, as were the action scenes, but I don't really like what Eleven killing herself (?) says the show's themes of cycles of abuse and found family. Also it definitely felt like Robin's mentoring of Will was supposed evolve more satisfyingly, but giving Will an epilogue boyfriend who literally only exists in Mike's imagination is a comically boring way to resolve his storyline. (and we literally never see Vickie again?) Also Mike having Will's painting hanging in his room is crazy to me, because you know he still believes El comissioned it lol. Anyways I could keep nitpicking, but I love these characters and I'm glad we got to see them out on their own terms instead of the show running on any longer than it needed to. The ending felt satisfying enough, and I think this show's legacy will be it's numerous high points moreso than any controversies or oversaturation fatigue.
truly the most unrealistic part of the entire finale were 4 adults thinking theyd actually meet up with eachother once a month.
Hopper and Joyce never acknowledged anything about Vecna being their former classmate was kinda weird
Im sure they were a bit more focused on the multiple attempts to kill their children, then the fact that they were once classmates
I always knew that kid from home ec would turn into a multi-dimensional skinless demon that sucked the life force from children
The Venn diagram of the people who think El died and the people who think Alfred imagined seeing Bruce at the end of Dark Knight Rises is a circle.
In the harsh light of a new year upon me I have some major gripes with this finale, perhaps none greater than the Holly b-plot. Last we see Holly, she is leading the kids through the cave to freedom. Then she decides to stay behind and attack Henry (to buy time?) and get’s knocked out. Then she is woken up by Nancy, and all the other kids are woken up by the rest of the crew. Why!? This whole sequence could have played out much better! Here’s my pitch - Elle and Vecna are in a deadlock, the party fighting the mindflayer is being overwhelmed. We cut to a scene in the red abyss that plays out like a reverse-Avengers where 12 portals open up and Holly is leading the kids out of Henry’s mind. As each kid wakes up the heart of the mindflayer gets weaker and weaker. This gives Elle the strength to overwhelm Vecna in the fight. Holly is hailed as a hero, emotional reunion with Mike as he comments on her being brave after all. I just think they robbed Holly of her moment and cheapened the whole arc with the kids powering the mindflayer when all it took was some flare guns to do the most damage.
Holly was a Macguffin that they gave some character development to along the way (learning to be brave) but the finale of the show was, and should have been, about the party defeating Vecna/The Mind Flayer. So I’m fine with it.
Sure but why create that thread if they’re not gonna pull on it a bit? also didn’t he say Brenner took him after we woke up from his coma in the hospital when he was a kid? But he’s allowed to go to school?
They did pull on it though. They had multiple scenes in that memory. Heck that memory was the key to finding him/the kids. I just don’t think much is added by Joyce and Hopper saying “oh yeah, I remember him from high school.” I feel like people (not necessarily you Dylan) complain these episodes are bloated, but then demand mountains of exposition on top of what was given.
Not just the Vecna fight but the pacing of the entire episode felt way off. I think I was expecting it to operate more like a movie, but it did feel more like two episodes stitched together.
