I thought they were set up to tie it up nicely after episode 4 but I'm doubtful now after these Walking Dead level filler episodes We'll see
that whole jonathan nancy scene was a giant who caaaaaaaaaress????? good lord these episodes stink lol watched 2 of the newest 3 and have no faith they even come close to landing this thing.
I saw someone mention the Duffer Brothers confirmed it was a break up in an interview. Just bad writing imo EDIT Oh, oops, guess I should have read and saw others already said the same thing lol
It wasn't clear. To me, it sounded like they were just in agreement that getting married at this point was too soon, but that they were finally addressing their differences to move forward stronger, with a better understanding of each other. It's not unheard of for couples to love each other and be successful despite having many differences. Then I see people say stuff like "well, if they were staying together, Johnathan wouldn't have thrown the ring because he would save it for the future" and I'm like.. "what future?? They thought they were about to die, dawg"
I mean, bringing characters to their conclusion in the context of other characters isn’t filler. Like, Nancy and Jonathon needed a definitive ending to their relationship. You can argue if it was handled well and such, but odd to call stuff like that filler. Or the people online saying the coming out scene was pointless or absurd given the circumstances. Yet, Will explained explicitly why he had to do it that way. Media literacy is is poor as ever, I’m afraid.
People on Reddit speculate the reason people are confused is because you don't usually see a mutual amicable breakup in entertainment, and you especially don't expect to see it toward the end of a show's run during a tense moment where their lives are on the line. Some say if it had been done earlier in the season or under different circumstances more people might have understood. What's funny is reading about couples watching the show with opposing takes on what happened.
I genuinely worry about the relationships people have been in that think rattling off everything you hate about your partner is a sign of continued commitment lol
My poor media literacy comment is mostly inspired by what I’m seeing on threads. I just saw someone ask if Billy hated Lucas in s3 due to racism and someone else somehow thought if someone passed between the “wall” they can resurrect or some shit. Didn’t see as much stupidity with vol 1, but 2 is really bringing it out for some reason. Often over things explicitly stated in the show itself.
Opposites attract haha. Unless it's an actual deal breaker or difference in morals, people make it work all the time
okay maybe i misinterpreted that scene, at least i didn't think it (or will's coming out) was filler. i can acknowledge the significance a scene has to the story while also addressing that it was confusing/poorly handled. i don't have poor media literacy
The people with poor media literacy are the Byler fans who are still convinced that Mike and Will are endgame lol
I thought it was very clear and I was also second screening half the time so I dunno. Maybe my brain is massive I feel like this season wouldn’t be getting so much shit if they released it all at once
me, braving the internet after new episodes/movie have come out of a hugely popular franchise seeing the people not understanding things the show explicitly explains.
The show definitely suffers from being so popular that it’s now cool to hate and dunk on. There’s a ton of valid criticisms in this thread and on volume 2 but elsewhere a lot of the internet is “lol MBB Botox” and just reeks of misogyny and it’s exhausting
Huge fan of this method. I know people like the water cooler communal activity of weekly episodes (or in this case, split releases), but I think if you have every episode at once, you can digest it as a whole. Making people wait has the side effect of letting them theorize and build expectations that might not be met.
Lol I'm not disagreeing that they broke up, I'm just defending that it wasn't as clear cut as some are claiming, but yeah fair enough!
