Yeah this was a big plot point in S4 haha. Brenner/Owens/Dept of Energy and Sullivan/army are enemies. They are actively hiding Eleven from Sullivan throughout S4. I assume Kay was/is Sullivan’s superior since she said she has been looking for Eleven for a long time.
He better show up in the finale. If they kill him off screen I’ll be annoyed. Also justice for Argyle
it just occurred to me that Will telling Max to run via Vecna (sick scene) is I think the first direct interaction those characters ever had on this show lol. they were both in the larger group in s3 but that's it. truly wild
Really enjoying this season with warts and all but I really don’t know how they’re going to stick the landing in a 2hr final episode. Too many plates spinning
I don't think that's what happened and it's so weird that it's being read that way. They thought they were gonna die so he didn't see any point in proposing.
The showrunners confirmed it was a breakup. They have nothing in common but shared trauma. That's what they were realizing, that they weren't a good fit for each other. Did Stranger Things' Nancy, Jonathan Break Up? Proposal Scene Explained
i believe the Duffers confirmed outright in an interview that they broke up in that scene, but i could be wrong
That’s the one “pause to explain things” scene so far that I actually liked…they should’ve broke up last season though
Will's coming out scene was a mixed bag for me. on one hand, i think Noah really embodied the anxiety that comes with the process of revealing your sexuality to those who might not be on board with it (i sure as hell felt that way, idk if Noah did in real life). and the reactions from Maya and Winona and some others definitely made it feel more grounded. but outside of those elements, the way the scene was written (and acted by most others in the cast) felt forced in some respects, cringey in others, and was mostly a retread of Robin's conversation with Will. while i think it still would've been somewhat odd to see it, it also felt like something was missing when Will explained he was having visions of abandonment when being captured by Vecna and then just... not showing them? idk, if that scene can resonate with other queer and trans kids in a way that they need, that's always gonna be a plus. but it also just felt a little half-baked thematically.
After episodes 3 and 4 which were borderline great I had to take a break midway through episode 6. Feels like they're botching this big time and I don't feel like giving them a pass. I'll finish it but I'm not enjoying it lol
Felt like they were going for a 80s/90s type of coming out scene, which I don’t know how I feel about. If that’s the tone they were going for, it just felt incredibly outdated and strange, and unfortunate to write an important scene for a pastiche. But I’m not part of the community so I can’t really comment on it but bc as you said, if it helps someone feel heard or seen, then it’s a plus.
i can get that they might feel compelled to write it that way to maybe make it more accurate to the times (not that it's a bad thing, but i found the gang's overwhelming acceptance to feel a bit incongruent with the setting, almost like in a group of teenagers in Indiana in 1987, there's gotta be at least one who's probably not fully on-board with LGBTQ+ rights). but on the other hand, it felt simultaneously like it tread familiar ground in some respects but also didn't go far enough in others, if that makes sense? i guess i was looking for something that felt more genuine to the character himself than something that ticked off boxes for both 80s and 2020s coming out scenes
A lot of talking shit on Netflix for “dumbing down” shows for second screen audiences (deserved) but seeing how many people didn’t realize Nancy and Jonathon broke up….Netflix might have a point lol
They listed off everything they hate about each other and then he left me an engagement ring, and a vat of melted goo. it seems like a relationship that lasts forever
I wasn’t on my phone during the scene and was invested but I misread it too. I just took it as they aren’t ready to rush into things just because they have shared trauma but not necessarily that they weren’t gonna be together. Just more like a reset. I thought it was a great scene though
I understood it to be them breaking up, and – another big point of conversation – that Mike understood Will was talking about having a crush on him
the Nancy/Jonathan breakup scene reminded me a bit of the Alexis/Ted breakup scene in Schitts Creek. you have two people who do feel love for one another - and still express it - but are in different places in their life and want different things, and just accept that things have to end to grow as people. no resentment and only love, but no beating around the bush either.
I saw a quote from them claiming to have told Netflix about the Upside Down being a wormhole/bridge connection before season 1 even aired, so the writing isn't great. I thought season 4 made it obvious that there was a third dimension and that the Upside Down was a connector, so making that the "big" reveal of part 2 was really anticlimactic for me. But, they've definitely been writing as a second screen show for a while, so not entirely shocking. The whole "I dug the tunnels for him" reveal by Will was also really underwhelming As far as the org chart for the Abyss I think that Vecna is basically middle management, and the Mind Flayer is running things. Henry's plan might actually be to try and destroy the MF so that he doesn't report to anyone.
