Just realizing this show just made life a living hell currently for any kid named Derek. Hope they make it through getting called dipshit every day for the next couple years.
I really dug the episodes. Less of a cliff hanger than I expected, but very solid setup for the final confrontation. Would have loved more slow dripping of the Vecna lore throughout volume 2, but the stage is set for a satisfying finale. If the duffer bros are bad Dustin and Steve save everyone by sacrificing themselves. My wife and I both teared up during the Will scene. Very effective storytelling, especially as the scene is set in the 80’s. IMO season 1 was the super effective intro, 2 and 3 were lore building and fun side questing, 4 was the magnum opus, and they just need to bring it home with the conclusion. I’m halfway through season 4 on my rewatch and I love all of the recalls. It’s wild that they’ve set the stage for every character to sacrifice themself so you really don’t know how it’s going to shake out. If the Mind Flayer is the big bad I do hope we get dialogue or a flashback that is meaningful. I want a fully fleshed out Vecna ending.
Episode seven has been my favorite this season so far solely because they actually had the entire gang back together. The upside down being a wormhole to another another dimension was a cool reveal. Can’t wait for the series finale next week.
Isnt the mindflayer just a bunch of the particles that are in the Demos and stuff? I assumed they was just a big scary thing Vecna made to look scary, not an actual creature
From my rewatch, I don’t think we know fully the breakdown on Vecna and The Mind Flayer. There’s parts that make it seem like Vecna running the show, and Dustin says he’s the Mind Flayer’s number one soldier. The Return of the Jedi talk is giving emperor darth vader redemption Easter eggs imo. I’d love if the mind Flayer is sentient and has a moment. I think it is an evil entity of some kind.
apparently that was plot of the play and is central to the story of henry but I guess they'll do some scene where he narrates the whole thing while El is suspended in air and can't move
Caleb is great they just never give him anything to do. his one solo storyline in this whole show was about playing basketball lmao, pretty weird look for the Duffers there Dustin’s arc has been the clear best part of this season for me, love them actually writing consequences for their single season deaths for once. it's cool that at least one character is exhibiting the reasonable response to all the trauma these children have been through
I’d also like the mindflayer to be the main antagonist of the abyss because I don’t like vecna as the villain. I just don’t think he’s that great of a villain to end the series on.
Rewatching the whole series after my kids asked me to. Just finished S3 and Billy is far and away the most compelling antagonist for me. Dude is electric every time he is on screen.
I gotta say, I am quite happy that the Duffer Bros wrote Max to have muscle atrophy from being in a "coma" for two years. I would have been rolling my eyes if she was up and running immediately, which I fully expected
Anyway, real excited for this to be over. The fact that we waited over 3 years for this crap is wild and shouldn't be dismissed.
that was kinda set up in episode 1 tbf they implied that the military was leaning on her to broadcast messages that encouraged people to be compliant
I kinda got the impression the military only knew the drugs were missing and not that the family was drugged (and have since been found) but idk you're probably right.
