My major gripe with this season in particular is that it feels like they forgot how to write dialog between all of these characters. Volume 2 really drove this home for me because none of the dialog really drove anything forward and a lot of it could have been cut and we would be in exactly the same place that we are now. It was essentially non-stop explanation of what they're about to do and how it could fail to the point that it felt like Episodes 1-7 of Season 5 have been a hand-holdy videogame tutorial leading up to the events of Episode 8, which will hopefully be a satisfying end to the series. Also, Holly's story is the most interesting of the season and, to me, that's already a strange way to handle the final season of a show in which she has never been the main character (and has barely been a side character before now)
While I agree with a lot of the criticisms, especially the constant planning, so far I’ve still been really enjoying it. Let’s see how it lands.
definitely still having a lot of fun, it's just like...I've seen this team do better for almost a decade at this point.
I think Sadie is better, but Gaten is definitely doing well, acting wise. But his character is pissing me off to no end. Caleb is doing great, too. That scene between him and Sadie when Max wakes up was great
It would be fun to watch the first episode with someone and be like “see the older sister? In just a few seasons she’s going to be gunning down US army men with a machine gun”
it's definitely apparent this season the writers are writing it as a second screen show. Netflix Is Telling Writers to Dumb Down Shows Since Viewers Are on Their Phones
I really thought that steve was going to die after their fight when he went off on his own and Dustin was going to lose him too and I'm kinda mad that there are absolutely no stakes or consequences this late in the show. It's like they overcorrected from S1 and S2 when they would introduce characters and kill them off in the same season
i think people need to accept that this isn’t the walking dead. Main characters aren’t going to die, probably not even in the finale. This is a show where teenagers with bats are more effective then army dudes with guns
I’m not pro military by any means but it’s kinda funny how they can just go around casually slaughtering soldiers with no consequences. Out here looking like terrorists
I feel like we are going to get at least one main character death as a big sacrifice in the climax. My guess is Hopper. Also as soon as the reintroduced Kali I was like "they brought her into the endgame to die so Eleven doesn't have to"
Did I miss something or can someone explain the scene where Nancy and Jonathan are in that room that's filling up with the goo and then it just hardens and stops filling up? Just seems like there's a lot of tension and they get all of their emotional shit out there but then there's like no tension anymore at all when the goo stops filling up
Knowing how the Duffers operate, it was probably some shit about them being honest and that feeling of love conquering the evils in the upside down, lol
i think they brought her back so neither El or Hopper have to die. I'm sure the bomb they're talking about to sever the worlds will need to be detonated in short range or the detonator will malfunction and will require someone to stay back on the bridge to detonate it. Eight will detonate while Hopper and El get saved. I don't see them "killing" Hopper a second time. I also don't see Hopper losing a daughter a second time after all the work he did to mend his relationship with El the last few seasons. Dustin has been working on healing after Eddie so for him to lose Steve would be a waste as well. Maybe Will?
