yeah that's my guess as well. We've got 4 long episodes left, I'm sure we'll be getting some exposition.

Yeah it's not like Marvels shitty Disney+ shows that you need to know in order to understand aspects of some of their movies

That being said, per @MidDave 's breakdown, I legit didn't realize that "Dimension X" and the Upside Down were different places. When El sent Henry there, I assumed it was the Upside Down as we know it. But it is true that wherever he was in that scene in Season 4, it did look pretty different than the Hawkins Upside Down.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I think they said that all the relevant information from the play would get recapped in this season so you don't have to see it

that said it's still dumb lol, everything I heard about the play contradicts actual dialogue from the show lol. it's such an unforced error

Dimension X is like Red and has rocks floating in the sky. According to the play, Henry had been there once before which may be why he’s scared of the cave, so eleven sent him back I guess lol

I just assumed (after all the wall stuff) that the Upside Down was like a bubble within Dimension X.

Mindscape - The Mind Lair, also known as the Mindscape, is a psychic terrain and an aspect of the mind of Vecna.[1][2] The Mind Lair was apparently created by Vecna sometime between 1979 and 1986. The terrain was cloaked in scarlet light and populated with versions of the Upside Down's vines; a fragmented version of the Creel House lay at its center. Via his 'curse' power, Vecna could make other conscious beings hallucinate and bring them into the mindscape.

This is my guess too based on the limited info we have. But also then makes you wonder how the Mind Flayer was in said Upside Down during Season 2, or how Vecna can move from dimension X to there.

Dustin has figured out it’s a circle, with Hawkins Lab at the center. So maybe where that gate was, there was was another opening from the Upside Down to dimension X too? Hmm

    Gonna need alllll the exposition

  10. Makes so much sense that Dave would love an exposition dump

    There's 5 worlds, not 4.

Dimension X is the yellow world, we've only seen it briefly, but this is when 11 kills Henry and sends him there and like you said, encounters mind flayer.

The one you're missing (someone just mentioned it), is the mind lair. This is the red world that Max spent a lot of time running up hills.

I think the last one is being referred to as Dream World. This is the Mr Whatsit world where he's manipulating kids (Holly).

Apparently the script also refers to "The Hellscape" which is the funnel between universes that Eleven pushed Henry through in the lab scene:

So bring the total to six (6) universes the events of this show take place across.

I guess technically there's only 4. Real, hell scape (portal to DX), dimension x itself, and upside down (the blending of DX and real world). Holly's dream world, 11's Void, and Vecna's Mind Lair are all mind scapes; psychic spaces made by 11 and Vecna and not actual world/universe.

I’m starting to feel like a boomer because every time I hear about multiple universes or multiverse for shows and movies I get annoyed

    Fight the long defeat.

    That's not boomerism, that's appropriate annoyance with what's become a played-out trope.
