  2. The only enjoyable aspect of the Russian plot was Murray. He was so fucking great in every scene.

I’m super confused about El and the kids powers, the lab, One, and the upside down more than ever. Unless I’m not connecting dots, I have more questions on those than before I watched this season.

I want more Will and Jonathan and less Mike. Nancy and Steve again is boring. Argyle, Eddie, Erica, and Robyn are great.

Seriously the only thing I think when I see venca on screen is how he is basically the upside down version of swamp thing.

Its pretty weird that this powerful dream monster is just some freak who got struck by lightning a million times after murdering a bunch of kids

Finished this tonight and really enjoyed it. I personally wasn't surprised to find out that Vecna was El's teacher, but him also being 001 and Creel's son definitely surprised me

Just finished episode 4. Holy shit.

Goddamn that was intense. I said earlier I didn’t think they’d actually have the guts to kill Max, and I felt comfortable with that once the girls got the humming from
victor creel. But beFore that moment I was a little bit questioning.
Now I see why that song is everywhere right now lol. I kinda wish it had been more prominent in the moment tbh, it was a little drowned out by the sound fx and the score. I thought once she escaped his clutches she’d have to run more through a “maze”
Or something instead of straight ahead, but they still made it feel so intense.
I wonder where it goes from here since they have a way to “beat” Vecna before he can claim anymore victims. Obviously they can’t be in the right place at the right time for every future victim, but it feels like a bit of a stalemate now, until El gets her powers back.

wasn’t expecting that from the California story, or the Russia story. I thought the boys were gonna sneak out, and I assumed we were on our way to getting Hopper back by episode 6, big reunion in episode 7 with him and the California crew. Then we’d get the big reunion with El in 8 or 9. But nope. Now I have no clue where they’re gonna go there.

Victor creel himself was a cool little addition to the story. I hope we see him again.
Robyn and Nancy make a pretty kick ass team. I’m liking that duo.
Steve being mother hen once again is just so good. I also like that since the kids are a little older his caring for them is coming off more as a friend/peer instead of big brother. I don’t think I can explain that well but his genuine worry for Max was sweet and felt more friend than big brothery, especially since we haven’t seen them interact one on one very much. And same with his interactions with Dustin and Lucas now.

I'm totally out of the loop, but am I supposed to know anything about this Victor Creel person when they mention him for the first time?

No he's brand new this season, but he's mentioned sporadically during the first couple episodes. Basically he's the town ghost story/urban legand, the "Old Creel House" like the house in your town that everyone thinks is haunted and etc

    Die rad.

I finished Vol 1 last night and enjoyed it for the most part. I was kinda bored with Eleven though until like the last 20 minutes of the entire season. Murray is the best this season.

Honestly Eleven is my least favorite chatacter this season. It's not Millie's fault because I loved her in Enola Holmes, but that's because she was allowed to act like a normal teenager in that movie.

It's so weird that Eleven still acts like a little kid. She doesn't talk when she's stressed, and she speaks with the cadence of someone who's still learning the english language, which made sense in Season One because she was acclimating a new environment, but now it just feels weird. Especially because all of the other kids in the Hawkins Lab are shown acting normal.

I just can't believe that Eleven, a 15-year-old, would just sit there and quietly sulk when being bullied by Angela or held in the lab, instead of talking shit and expressing her annoyance.

I was laughing pretty hard when she got to the point where she could barely talk/make a complete sentence, all the while the host is trying to ask her normal questions

So I finished the season and enjoyed the arc, and it actually felt like a complete season so if this was all we got, I wouldn't feel cheated at all. It's crazy (and exciting) to think there's another 8 or so hours in just a months time considering all the action and story packed in this first half. (I am concerned about the reported episode lengths though, I think some of them are 2+ hours). The last episode of this season felt super long, so I am not sure how I'll feel sitting for a longer than average movie length episode. Television is meant to be different than a movie, and be more digestible bites, so I'm surprised that they're ballooning in length and blurring that line, but we'll see how they actually feel when viewed.

My only complaint about the story (besides it being confusing at this point), is that the final episode had way too much exposition and it was a lot of weird explaining that didn't make sense in the moment. The explanation by 001 for Eleven's plot (which was telegraphed and not all that big of a reveal) was okay and justifiable, but why Nancy was given all that information was weird, and it didn't really flow as well as the Duffer bros maybe thought it did. This show has a real hesitation to kill it's characters, which I sort of get, but it's ruining the suspense and in this case, the exposition to Nancy just felt like a cop out to yet again avoid going there. It's the classic bad guy talks the good guys ear off about his plan allowing time for a rescue, instead of just sticking the knife in or pulling the trigger.

I also think the pacing was slightly off with all the subplots and the Mike/Jonathan/Will story line has gone nowhere besides providing some nice comic relief with Dusty bears girlfriend. I'm sure they'll feature more prominently in the second half.
