I was thinking the same thing re: the creation of the Upside Down as we know it. It looked like a wasteland when One was sent in there, didn’t look like any Hawkins architecture there at all.
After seeing how long the final episode is in July, I’m very excited to see how they approach it and lay everything out over almost three hours.
I’m curious to see what the endgame is with Eddie. Stopping Vecna isn’t gonna magically absolve him, and him being locked up while other murders happen isn’t a great alibi when the town thinks he’s possessed by Satan and can use magic to kill. Plus talking about this year finally being the year he graduates high school and his recurring bit about not being a hero and always running away, I’m not liking his chances
Oh shit THAT'S who that is. I was trying to place him during all seven episodes and couldn't do it. Was too lazy to look it up lol.
every storyline for this kinda rocked this season, except for El’s, which absolutely sucked beginning to end
Since we love to rank 1>3>2=4(so far) This season really suffers from the Russia nonsense and the California stuff. Best part of all that was Susie's out of control house. Love Mike's dad and how they just keep making him be the worst.
1>4>3>>2 If they don't stick the landing it could very well fall below 3, but there's no chance it could possibly be worse than 2
I think it’s somewhat specific to this forum, I’ve seen discussions elsewhere that are much more negative on 3. I’d put 3 over 2 personally, but it’s not a wide gap. All three seasons held up well for me on rewatch.
I’ve only watched each season once but I can’t remember a single thing about 2. 3 was fun in a sort of grindhouse-lite way
1 is fantastic until the end which was a little meh compared to the rest, 2 was a slog, and 3 was a LOT of fun, but the actual story wasn't as solid as season 1.
I enjoyed season 2 more than 3 immediately in the aftermath of 3’s release, but I’ve rewatched the series a few times now, and on each rewatch, the divide between the two gets wider and wider. Though, I’m of the opinion that everything Russia-related from season 3 on is somehow the most unbelievable aspect to the entire show. Don’t get me wrong, I loved season 3, but the Russians plot line + the weird character shift of Hopper we discussed earlier in this thread + Nancy and Will sort of getting sidelined is primarily what drops it down for me. The mall rats vibe fucking rules, though, and I’ll forever be grateful to the season for giving us Robin.
I’m 6 episodes into S4 and shocked by how much I’m enjoying it. I think El’s storyline is pretty whack and boring but everything else is a lot of fun. The Kate Bush scene was great
Yea, season 2 is the weakest season to me, by far. It gave us Max and the Dustin/Steve dynamic. Beyond that? Eh? I dunno. Not much else sticks out as great and/or memorable. It is also the last real focus we’ve gotten of Will essentially. the other seasons just have more highs and things that hit me way harder. I still like it, minus 2.7. But we already discussed that to death last week. So I’ll say no further.
This season is really bogged down by the El and Russia plots. They have their moments (Winona, Brett, David are great) but the main plot with the kids is where it’s at. The end of episode 4 with max almost had me in tears. Eddie and the stoner guy are great new characters and the baddie is cool too. They really wrote themselves into holes at the end of S3 and now they have to dig them out, and it’s just not that fun to watch the process of el getting her powers back and getting hopper out of Russia. Hopefully that’s wrapped up nicely for the final season to be a banger.
I never used to think so but on rewatch? definitely agree. s2 grew on me a lot and 3 did the opposite lol
You guys complain too much. This season is the most fun and thrilling it's ever been. The other seasons save the best stuff for the final episodes, but the stakes were high almost from the start with this one. At the end of episode 1 with Chrissy in a trance, I knew she was about to pull a Tina from Nightmare on Elm Street. From that moment on, I was so in. One of my horror favorites, and so many cool influences to appreciate here. As for the rest, I enjoyed watching Hopper be a badass in Russia and Joyce getting into shenanigans with Murray. No lulls in this season for me.
this whole season is just pure NOES worship lol. teenagers die gruesomely by floating in the air, the monster kills you in your dreams, fuckin Robert Englund shows up. they're not even being subtle about it and I love it
