split allows it to return sooner while they finish the last two episodes. Good. feature length? We shall see. But I’m not against it. Switch to weekly? nah, some shows are good for that though. This is more like a book that I can’t put down and want to finish as fast as possible. I need answers. I’ll rewatch it multiple times to pick up even more from the show. normal length? Nah. Make them as long as they need to be, or as short as they need to be. So, how did it feel to write it? they literally said it was to give us some sooner rather than waiting longer for all at once. Plus, with the second part being like 4 hours by itself, it doesn’t hurt to split it up. I am sure they’ll get two spikes of interactions because of the split, but I don’t think that is why they did it. But it’s a bonus. I literally used it as my example of enjoying a bottle type episode. I said it was fascinating.
I mean just from this conversation (coupled with previous interactions and the threads that you frequent) I don't think we're ever going to agree on what constitutes "good art". I will say, though, that for a show that you seem to enjoy, you don't appear to like the direct influences that they're drawing from if you don't like that episode. I think they very accurately nail the tone and mood of the type of movie they were paying homage to, so from an author's intent standpoint they succeeded. I also found the episode (taken both in and out of context) to be enjoyable in its own right.
I also skipped it on rewatch, same with the penultimate episode of Bly Manor. They're fine episodes on their own, but I wish they were better incorporated into the flow of their respective shows
I mean, it's a foregone conclusion that he's alive. There's no way they'd have all this foreshadowing and not follow up on it.
I'm 100% sure you're right and I hope it's a small arc cos so many other parts of this show are more interesting
Maybe. Some people seem to think whatever that is has taken over Billy’s dead body because the voice is supposedly similar to him in season 3. I haven’t given it that much thought yet, so I’m not sure if it actually makes sense.
Finished up the re-watch this morning. All three seasons are great and hold up well. Excited for season 4. Some random thoughts: - You can't say enough about the quality of the cast, but the kids especially. Shows starring kids are always a risky proposition, but they couldn't have done it any better. - I like how realistic the kids' friendships are. They care about each other, but they also fight and argue in a way that feels very true to life. - The show incorporates new characters really well. Max, Billy, Bob, Robin, Erica, Murray, Dr. Owens, Mayor Kline. All great additions. I think this is part of the reason many people don't like the Chicago episode - the characters are so lame. - I forgot how effective the shadow monster design is in season 2. Really dreadful and creepy in a HP Lovecraft kind of way. - Dacre Montgomery was good in season 2, but he crushes it in season 3. Fantastic performance. - Steve rules. - Max rules. Sadie Sink is awesome. - It's funny that Jonathan and Nancy are dating in real life because I feel like their onscreen chemistry is pretty weak. - I love how relentlessly the show shits on Ted Wheeler. - Still don't love the "neverending story" scene in 3.8. I get why it works for some people, but it's on the wrong side of cheesy for me.
Also rhe Neverending Story scene is perfect to me. There’s subtly doing nostalgia in a way that people can recognize it’s there without putting their finger on it, then there’s being kinda hamfisted about it in an obvious and somewhat annoying way while trying to not seem like you’re using it on purpose (the new coke thing kinda comes to mind here, though I wasn’t annoyed by it)…and THEN there’s just being openly blunt and obvious about it in a so cheesy bad that it’s good way…and goddamn hearing that theme song did it for me lol
yeah had the same thought about how crazy good the kids are in this today. Finn is probably the weakest of the bunch which is funny, because he's still a great lead, but man the other kids are unbelievably talented. Noah Schnapp especially, that scene in 2x4 when he's talking about the Mind Flayer possessing him, the kid is holding his own against Winona goddamn Ryder. it's wild
He really stands out in season 2. The interrogation scene in the shed is another good one, he's fantastic in it.
Definitely agree about Dacre Montgomery. His performance in season 3 may be my favorite of the entire series.
