For anyone who can’t wait any longer, the first 8 minutes are up. Also, the split will be 7 episodes next Friday and the last two in July. The last episode is 2.5 hours. https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/stranger-things-season-4-episode-length
Call me crazy but Im not really a fan of the way they're doing that.... like why not break those last 4 hrs into 4, 1 hr long episodes instead of having two feature length movies as the finale? I guess it really doesn't matter since I'm sure a lot of people are gonna just watch all 4 hrs at once anyways.
There will be one more. not sure why people are complaining about more Stranger Things content. Besides 2.7, it’s been nothing but great.
The only thing that makes 2.7 worse than it already would be is the fact that they basically just abandoned that storyline. I feel like they could've (and still could) recontextualized it and not completely dropped that storyline and essentially acted like it never happened.
Really don't know how the length of any individual episodes matter since probably 97% of people will be binging everything in a row lol
Nah, that episode was awful and completely unnecessary. Everything else this show has done has been good to great.
I don’t hate it, but it’s not great. It’s an odd choice for the show that was clearly done to give something for El to do before finally being allowed to join the rest of the cast at the end of 2.8. There was nothing that interesting going on with that. They cold open the season with these characters implying importance and they’re not at all. Having just rewatched the show the cold open of season 2 and all of 2.7 feel so out of place with all the other episodes. Even the point about Brennan being alive was immediately dropped and has not been mentioned since. Maybe that’ll come back around though. Lots of time left with these long episodes. But I highly doubt that crew will be back in any way. It was kind of a waste of time.
It was cool world-building. And given the vitriolic reaction to it, I'm not surprised they haven't done anything with them again since. Hopefully they come back around this season or in the final season.
2.7 is bad. The idea is solid from a character-building and world-building perspective, but the execution was poor.
It was not cool. What did it actually add to the world? That mad scientists experimented on more than just El? Not really that shocking or anything. Beyond that? What does it contribute to the world? 80’s punks? Chicago? if you thought the reaction to it was bad, imagine if this was a weekly show. You get the 2.6 cliffhanger, wait a week, sit through 2.7 while having the story and characters you care about completely put on hold for El to mess around with some punks out of state, then have to wait another week to get back to the pressing matters of our heroes. Oh god, imagine if 2.6 was like a mid season break point and after waiting weeks or months you come back to 2.7. Now that would have been truly negative reaction. Thankfully with the binge release you just had to sit through 2.7 to get back to what matters.
I found 2.7 to be fine. I enjoyed getting more background on Eleven's experience, learning that some of the other Brenner children were out there, seeing what they can do, etc. El learning how to hone her powers a bit. Figuring out where she truly wanted to be after running away from Hopper, etc. I just don't get the extreme hate for it. And I don't think it was "immediately dropped" tbh....I think we'll definitely see the experimentation on other children come into play and maybe even might see 8 again. Like I think before all is said and done, we will be returning to Brenner and the experiments at the lab. With all that said....holy shit at that first 8 minutes. I think I suspected that's where they were going with that, but I definitely initially expected it to be either one of the other children going crazy and maybe 11 saves Brenner, OR a Demogorgon that somehow slipped through a brief opening to the Upside Down, which 11 saves them from and then Brenner starts shifting the experiments on 11 to figure out how to open the rift again and etc etc etc we get to season 1 Edit: Now that I think about it, we didn't see what was on the other side of that broken window....could have been a head fake to make us THINK El slaughtered those people but actually she just got done tossing a Demogorgan through the glass.
I mean, clearly they're gonna follow up on the "Brenner is still alive" hook from that episode. I would be really surprised if we didn't see those characters show back up at some point considering how roadmapped this series is.
Also maybe if you're a GOT or TWD fan, you were already numb to the whole "entire storyline you were invested in from previous episodes being completely left out" experience because those shows were known for it haha
Someone should’ve told the Duffer Bros that world building can be interesting and not completely fuck up the flow of a season then
^^^Said all this as I watched. If you don't get the influences they drew from for the ep, you probably won't like it as much And you're also a dork because they rule and you should watch them.
