I thought Hopper was great. Loved how heavily invested he became in everything. And another vote for Ryder being awesome. Her reactions seemed warranted to me? Lol
Yep Hopper was definitely one of my favorite characters. You could tell early on that he wasn't your regular small-town sheriff. He had some solid field experience prior.
Hopper was pretty good. Not my fav but contributed well. Not an original concept for a character either but the whole series was kind of built on old tropes so I'm ok with it
I really liked the first episode or so of this but about halfway through now I'm getting pretty bored. Maybe because I've been watching it slower than everyone else? It's probably stronger in a binge I think. I don't hate it by any means but with the amount of great tv happening right now I'm just finding it harder and harder to want to watch another episode of this.
Yeah I think with Winona I related to her a lot. She tugged on my maternal instinct that I didn't know I had and I felt for her pretty deeply. Whereas with Hopper I wasn't as invested in that character type. I don't think he was solely a stereotype or anything, but the trope he was based on isn't one that I've ever really found super compelling. But yeah it was pretty tropey throughout. Like those bullies omg chill it's not that serious!! But it was a very nostalgic kind of play on bullies. Actually all of the kid actors looked familiar to me and I could've sworn I'd seen them in other things, but I think they just did the throwback thing so well it made them all seem familiar lol. Like I swore I knew Jonathon's actor in something and when I googled him I didn't! It's killing me trying to think of who he reminds me of.
I did the same thing with Jonathan. I still am determined to figure out who he reminds me of. I also searched for Steve thinking he was someone I remembered. It turns out he just reminds me of Jean Ralphio from Parks and Rec. also this is great Pick a side: Jonathan and Steve from Stranger Things are both in bands
A friend who lives in Chicago recently posted on Facebook that he thought the Steve actor looked familiar and then realized it was cus he had recently played a show with him hah
The biggest tropey thing for me was when Barb goes "Nance, this isn't you" because she drank a beer. Like damn what sacred bond is she breaking by drinking a beer with a guy Now I'm having the same problem w Jonathan thanks for that
I knew quite a few people like that in high school. A little over the top? Sure. But not unbelievable.
winona was fantastic. cried a few times watching her. the show was filled with a lot of tropes but that was obviously intentional in order to set up the nostalgia theme.
Jonathan has those Benicio del Toro eyes. Steve reminded me of a combo between Andrew Garfield and Ben Schwartz.
Definitely looked like a poor mans Garfield. Jonathon is pretty much just Edward Furlong from back in the day.
What an oddly good fit. Good luck beating out Anna for it though. lol "Stranger Things" Star Shannon Purser REALLY Wants to Play Squirrel Girl
I love how they tried to make Steve more nuanced outside of the dumb jock stereotype, should make for a really interesting dynamic in the next seasons.
Not sure if this show was actually that good or if I just really like that exists. Kid actors killed it tho. Ryder was fine. Only issue I had with her is the same I did in Show Me a Hero. Even though she's 44 I can't look at her and see an average middle aged woman for some reason.
