I can't remember but like a handful of salve bed where she wasn't crying haha. That's a lot to ask of an actor or actress. At least it wsent really annoying.
Not a knock on anyone in here but I'm wondering if the people who didn't like Winona in this don't have kids. I have a 2-year-old and all I could think about throughout this series was how my wife and I would react if he was missing and there was an ounce of hope he was still alive. You better believe we'd be over the top batshit crazy. She played the role perfectly. It was actually very touching to see the bond she had with both sons (i don't know why but the scene in the finale where Jonathan calls out to his mom when she was on other side got to me). There is a strong tie to family bonds in this show (mother-son and father-daughter). When those bonds are broken, it flips people's lives upside down and people react differently (Hopper turns to alcohol, depression). Anyways, this show was just straight up fantastic. Everything about it was crazy good. Side note, ever since I watched this I can't for the life of me find my dog's leash. Like, it straight up disappeared. Strange.
Winona was probably my favorite performance of the show tbh. Not that everyone else didn't do a great job, I was just drawn to her more.
Loved the acting (especially the kids), the setting, and the music. The only thing I didn't love was the government/monster/upside-down part. It was fine, not particularly innovating. I'd imagine this show is really being enjoyed by 80s kids. It sucks you into that time period. The show reminded me of the book "the fort" by Arik Davis. It's basically stranger things but with a kidnapper/murderer instead of the sci-fi stuff.
I have a kid. And with that I actually connected to Hopper more. Basically just lost it during the last episode when you found out what happened to his daughter. I was like, really crying. And to be fair, I don't think Winona was awful. Just could have done better. She took me out of a few scenes with some questionable acting and fake crying but overall did a fine job. Definitely a lot to ask of actor to basically cry and act hysterical for 8 straight episodes.
The extent of my binge watching is normally a season in a week. That's roughly what it took me to finish this first season.
like many others..... put it off for a while, started to watch it going to bed the other night...binged it through ah so this is the greatest thing of all time huh? hmm, no big deal. Just go on living my life as if I didn't just watch one the greatest things of my entire life. Ok. I guess.
Honestly though. I still can't get over how great this is. I wanted to re-watch immediately after I was done episode 8.
This was so awesome. Also, one of the lights on the garage started strobing last night and I was legit kind of creeped out haha.
I liked Hopoer way more than I did Winona. I just don't think Winona was as bad as some are making her out to be. Her performance was meant to be over the top.
I liked hopper but he was at the lower end of my fave characters. Idk. Troubled male cop with a dark past isn't my fave kind of character. I thought winona's was very compelling as a single working class mother trying to hold it all together. But I liked them both.
