The more I listen to this the more I get modern era Silverstein similarities. Specifically ABPTD and MMM in the production and guitar tones
I agree, and the singing/screaming gives me big Silverstein vibes too. A friend of mine loves Silverstein so I suggested he listen to this. He loves it too.
They really most hate the constant. Haven’t played anything off of it since 2017 and most of the the time they played songs off of it was like 2010
It's a shame about The Constant as The Ghost of You and I, To The Burial, Won Threw Ate, and Eye For An Eye are total bangers that could be rotated.
I've been wondering because I'm not familiar with the history behind it: why do they hate The Constant?
Current ranking of the tracks: 1. Afterglow - 9.5/10 (this should have been the lead single, no doubt) 2. Knives Out - 9/10 3. Dead and Gone - 9/10 4. Tear Me to Pieces - 8.5/10 5. Sorry About Me - 8.5/10 6. War - 8/10 7. Can't Save You - 8/10 8. Take the Ride - 7.5/10 9. 2005 - 7.5/10 10. Real Life - 6.5/10 (the most generic chorus they've ever written) 11. Use Me - 5/10
The vocal delivery and melody of 2005 reminds me of something Ryan Key or Tony Lovato would have done.
I was not into the singles besides the title track but, man... within context of the album I am digging the shit out of everything. Funnily enough, 2005 is one of my favs and made me misty eyed this morning while I was making coffee. That year I was a sophomore in college and it made me look back at my own innocent recklessness at that time. I can see it striking a chord with other elder emos like myself haha.
From what I remember them saying on the podcast, it's less about the actual content of the album and more the negative memories surrounding its recording and touring cycle. I remember them saying they felt rushed to put another record out soon after the Black Swan and they felt they weren't ready. Plus I think that's when members started having kids so they wanted to take a break from touring for a while but they felt pressed to tour on the record. Stuff like that more so than disliking the songs.
I think it was kind of a time too when they weren't as "big" as they once were. Things were changing. If that makes sense.
