the first half of the book I was wondering who wrote what section and then I got to Sunlight Gardener and I was like "oh yeah this is pure King"
Talisman was cool but I didn't love it overall. Wild to see some of those concepts written in 1984 when nowadays the idea of a multiverse is such a common thing. Can imagine that would've had a much larger impact on readers back when it was released. Back into DT3 and it feels good
Finished The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I liked it! A quick little read that was surprisingly subdued for King writing a 9 year old girl.
Other than his newest Holly book, I’ve never had any desire to read the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Glad you liked it!
It's a very slight story for King in terms of plot, characters, and theme. He keeps in pretty straightforward for better or worse. Not really much to offend, so I would say give it a shot if you're ever looking for something quick and easy. I like the form with each chapter being an "inning."
I took me way too long into reading The Long Walk to realize "oh wait this book is really about the Vietnam War isn't it?"
Wrapped up The Wastelands this morning and what a treat it was to get back to Roland and company. Ending gave me small Resident Evil vibes with the underground lab/computer vibes and big time puzzle/riddle prerequisite to get to a train. Jumped right into Wizard and Glass!
Do yourself a favor and read something else is my initial thought lmao but no for real you don’t have to. It’s okay as a standalone as long as you know who she is in general.
Being intimidated by a book being too long is a mental thing. My trick is just getting through 25 pages at a time. The way I figure it getting through 500 pages can feel tough, but doing 20 reps of 25 isn't.
I breezed through IT, but The Stand took me forever. I loved both though. This is reading pretty fast so far.
I will get like 3/4th way through a book quick, but then something will come up or in will get distracted and the last quarter will take me forever.
About halfway thru Wizard and Glass and I am so captivated. The whole story within the story is so good that I’m not even chomping at the bit to get back to Roland and co in the present. Can live in this flashback
The Stand is definitely the better book but I read Under the Dome so much faster. I think because shit hits the fan on page one.
Okay so questions to pose to the DT gang : A) What do I need to read between books 4 and 5? I've been loosely following the Jimmy Mango Method but he's got a ton of stuff listed in this gap and I've seen some of his choices scrutinized. I was planning on rereading Salem's Lot and hitting Insomnia before 5, but is that all I need to do? B) Apparently it is kinda divisive on where to actually place 4.5 and some recommend not actually reading it before 5. Any thoughts there? I'm in the back half of Wizard and Glass now so just want to prepare accordingly! Appreciate all thoughts and weigh-ins in advance.
