Isn’t it kind of weird the next King book hasn’t been confirmed or dated yet? Or am I just missing it somewhere.
I’m just under 2/3 of the way through my first reading of Salem’s Lot. Gonna restart The Stand next. And if I can keep the momentum up, that should lead into another pass at the Dark Tower series. I think I got through book 3 last time before I tapped out. Edit: I should add that I’m very much enjoying Salem’s Lot.
Gun to my head, Salem’s Lot and Needful Things are my favorite Kings. The small town world building in those books is mesmerizing.
I thought about this the other day. Salem’s Lot and Wizard and Glass are comfort for me above all else. The way they made me feel reading them is just so different compared to other King books.
After spending like a year reading Brandon Sanderson, i’ve decompressed with almost nothing but King. Did 3/4 of Different Seasons (had previously read Shawshank), The Long Walk, The Eyes of the Dragon, and now into The Running Man. Walk and Running Man clearly swayed by the movie adaptations but want to do The Dark Tower next
Eyes of the Dragon sets you up well for The Dark Tower! worth reading Salem's Lot too, both for the setup and cos it's a classic
that's pretty much the groundwork I would say most people need, so hell yeah. could throw in The Stand or IT too because they tie-in to TDT in small ways but they're both absolute bricks haha
This thread is split on Insomnia but I think you should read it before you read DT7 just because its tie in is direct, even if not incredibly vital. I appreciated having read it when I got to DT7. If you want to be a true psycho, do the Jimmy Mango method lmao He explains his reasons in the video and some of the tie ins are so little but you know King fans do everything extra so, if you're interested in it... If you don't want to watch this video, this is what he recommends: 1. DT1: The Gunslinger 2. DT2: The Drawing of the Three 3. The Stand 4. The Eyes of the Dragon 5. The Talisman 6. DT3: The Wastelands 7. DT4: Wizard and Glass 8. Salem's Lot 9. Mist 10. It 11. Insomnia 12. Rose Madder 13. Desperation 14. Regulators 15. Everything is Eventual 16. Little Sisters of Alluria 17. Hearts in Atlantis 18. Black House 19. DT4.5: The Wind through the Keyhole 20. DT5: Wolves of the Calla 21. DT6: Song of Susanna 22. DT7: The Dark Tower 23. DT1: The Gunslinger (read it again)
This vid is what I based my choices on. You do have to make sure Insomnia is pretty fresh in your brain when you're reading 7, but I don't think you should split up 5-6-7. Insomnia as the last thing before you go back to the series after 4 makes sense to me. I also really kinda strongly think WTTK should be read after 7, when it was released. It is 4.5, but it feels very separate. I almost thought of it as part of a different cycle while I was reading
Put a hold on Joe Hill’s new book out today at my library and it’s already ready for pickup despite like 30+ people in queue. Cool!
About 40 something pages in and I’m like “wait do I know this?” and there are some Dead Zone references/spoilers so just be wary
I am so glad he is making the rounds on the TV stations and the podcasts recently. He’s just like his father in so many ways. This is a great one.
Finished Wizard & Glass yesterday. Only took me 2 months or so but I relatively flew through the last 200 or so pages
The Talisman was one of the first King books I read and I don't remember much of it, except that I loved it. Never got around to Black House Also the idea of reading the same series of books 11 times is crazy to me
