This I do agree with. Found the super in depth JFK/Oswald details were a bit a drag for me. I didn’t hate it, but definitely the parts I didn’t feel that into. Him just spending time back then in Derry and Texas and his entire time spent with Sadie is of course the best part and so god damn good to me.
I think the worst thing about the JFK stuff was the forward (or maybe it was an afterword) about how the official story was the one to follow and no alternatives warranted exploration in a book that deals with time travel
I have about 100 pages left of The Stand. I've never breezed through a book this long so seamlessly. This is why I adore King.
I have 2 unread Kings on my shelf and wanna knock one out over the next 2 months for Spooky Season. Should I go with The Dark Half or Insomnia?
I have not read The Dark Half yet but I did enjoy Insomnia more than most people seemed to. It's unnecessarily long but I did like it. I read it in the middle of my Dark Tower run and I am glad I did because there are crossover characters and I was able to really appreciate it when they showed up in the final book.
had a very tough time reading Insomnia even as the biggest Tower freak out there, that book is slooooow
I think in some weird way that is why I appreciated it. I agree that it is slow but I couldn't help but appreciate how, while reading it, I actually felt like I had insomnia, haha. His descriptions of Ralph's insomnia as it got worse actually kinda drove me crazy. I thought it was great in terms of mood and tone. I wouldn't say it's in his top tier, but it worked for me.
I've actually had insomnia a few times in my life and he definitely did describe it very well, actually that first part of the book where it's developing was my favourite by far. just really did not like the plot with the little doctors and the trying to do a commentary on violent sexism was pretty bad too lmao
I don't even think about it anymore when it comes to King and his commentaries, haha. I just expect to have to ignore his heavy handedness.
I feel I should caveat the Insomnia pick with the fact that I have never read any of The Dark Tower (massive blind spot in my King love). Would I still like Insomnia?
never read the book, but i saw the long walk last night and it was pretty compelling. i think people are really gonna like david jonsson in particular
I did Dark Tower VII, The Stand, and IT in a row. Just finished IT this last week. Absolutely loved it. After 3000 pages straight of King, I'm going to take a little break. I still haven't seen The Long Walk yet but I'm excited. I saw the trailer for The Running Man at the movies last week and I thought it looked pretty good.
picked up that short story collection set during The Stand today. first two stories did not do much for me but there's some great names in here so I'll stick with it
The publishers at Comic Con had King books with the new covers on BOGO so I picked up Misery and The Dead Zone.
