Loving Bag of Bones as a Summer read so far. Not sure where it's going, but it's cool to see what seems to be a more classic ghost story from King. Also started Heart Shaped Box which is along similar lines. My first time reading anything by Joe.

Bag of Bones was such a good summer read. Every summer I tell myself I’ll read Duma Key but still haven’t done it

Just finished a reread of desperation and now going into Regulators for the first time. I’ve heard mixed with some calling it his worst and others enjoying it!

  6. Finished Wolves yesterday, loved loved loved it. My memory of the last 3 books from my first time through is not as good as the first 3, so it's also a little fresher to me.

I also had the thought that if you were doing a TV show of DT, it would be a viable option to have it start in the Calla and have that be the "current" time and then tell books 1-3 via flashbacks. It just seems very difficult to me to tell those very well linearly, especially 1 and 2. Having the Calla setting be the base of everything would allow a lot more characters to be involved and have the three drawn gunslingers be fully skilled and full fledged gunslingers at the start, and I think there are a ton of plot beats that would be good prompts for extended expository flashbacks. Ultimately I trust Flanagan, but just a thought.

Speaking of rights, though (DT5 spoilers): Surely they won't be able to portray snitches, lightsabers, and Dr Doom Wolves? Tons of room to work on that of course, but curious how they would handle that

  9. I actually hadn’t thought of that. That’s a good point about the rights.

I absolutely hate that stuff in Wolves lmao I'll consider it a net positive if they can't do that in the show. just completely sucks all of the menace out of the greencloaks

I first read The Gunslinger like 15 years ago. I am just now finally starting Wizard and Glass

Did anyone watch Castle Rock on Hulu? I just discovered it and plan to watch it after Wednesday season 2 and Adolescence during my catch-up binge.
I guess it combines a bunch of King stories in one narrative? Sounds interesting.

First season was cool, but that was before I read any King so I missed all the references. Never watched the Misery season.

I’m reading 11/22/63 which is only my 4th king I believe but man he just loves to use the n word. So unnecessary.

Yeah, it was always weird reading the Dark Tower 2.

  20. the Detta parts of DT2 almost led to me putting it down both times I read it, just brutal. At least at some point the text acknowledges how ridiculous it is, but still

finished DT7 again tonight after putting it off for months, an incredible read but just so brutal. I've never been able to get through the Oy chapter without some ugly crying

kinda feel like circling back to Tower related stuff I didn't do this time (still never read Desperation!) but also might need a break from King for a bit lmao. at least until Talisman 3 comes out

Enjoyed Bag of Bones, but didn't love it. Setting and concept get an A+, but there were what seemed to be a few vestiges of a longer draft and some plot lines that didn't lead anywhere or weren't fully fleshed out. It was kind of cheap to kill Mattie then call that out as a cheap plot device in the epilogue. King is at his horniest in this one. A fun summer read while you're in it, but hard to not poke some holes after digesting it for a bit. I feel like this either needed another edit or he should've just released the 1000-page draft and explained a bit more about the fun town hivemind stuff.
