I'm gonna triple post because I started Black House today and I must say King writing about Korn and 311 was not on my bingo card lmao
finally finished Black House today. very slow start but once it got going it was really strong stuff. Henry Leyden is easily one of the best characters in a King book, loved him
good god I remember them being close together but it's so wild that those two deaths in DT7 happen within 60 pages of each other. can't even imagine reading that after following the series for 20 years, King was nasty for that
i am in the middle of a DT re-read after like 15 years? taking the opportunity to read the related works that I haven't before (all of them) so far it's been DT1>DT2>the Stand>DT3>DT4 (which I liked soooo much more this time, just wanted to get out of the flashback the first time)>Salem's Lot>on Insomnia right now after Insomnia it will be Little Sisters of Eluria>Everything's Eventual>Low Men>DT5>DT6>DT7>Keyhole The Stand was really incredible, well worth the time. As good as anything I've read by him. Not far into Insomnia yet but not finding it hard to start/boring as I've seen some say
Insomnia is a bit bloated. I’m a huge king fan and I remember waiting for it to be over, which isn’t usually the case with him!
Really struggling to get through fairy tale. At the half way point and just no desire to pick back up
good stuff here, not that different than mine although I read Keyhole in between 4 and 5. would also recommend Eyes of the Dragon if you can find a copy, it's a really quick read but it enriches the world and Flagg's story a lot
I picked up The Long Walk today. I’m a big fan, but didn’t know he wrote the book when I saw the movie trailer. It seems like a quick read.
Just finished The Sun Dog as a stand alone. What a cute, silly little story. Really the extreme of the "inanimate object, but it's haunted" trope that King always gets pigeonholed into. I had fun, the additional Castle Rock color was nice. Now starting The Drawing of the Three. I wasn't really ready to continue The Dark Tower, but it was what the library had so I'm excited to dive in. Was not a big fan of The Gunslinger, but I think y'all said that's not uncommon.
Yeah, lots of people like the Gunslinger a lot less than the rest. I never minded it, but it's def not uncommon
Gunslinger worked for me, but by all means it gets way, way better once you start book 2 and meet the other main characters
Almost done with Never Flinch. I know some people are going to find the inclusion of social issues cheesy and probably off putting. Holly is still talking about covid lol which I know everyone looved
About halfway through Insomnia now, I totally get why people find it slow but it's not bothering me. It's impressing me the way the whole text reads like an old person's thoughts, he really adjusts his authorly voice for his main character in a kind of radical way
Yeah Gunslinger is fine but it really kicks off with drawing of the three. I remember finishing gunslinger and being like eh do I really want to read 6 more books of this ? But a friend told me to keep going and I’m glad I did cause it’s possibly my all time favorite book series. Or up there at least.
I like Gunslinger so much more than Drawing lol but the latter is definitely where the pace picks up and leads you into the rest of that insane series
Liked, didn’t love Never Flinch. Weakest of the Holly stories. It’s getting a tad repetitive circling those characters. The villain(s) and final showdown were great i dont think using those characters automatically makes it repetitive, but the situations just felt a tad too familiar.
