I remember I liked Wolves of the Calla, but I did NOT enjoy Songs of Susannah. There’s that whole element of it I was eye rolling haha Read Christine last summer and still think about it. I loved that one
Ha, I know! Was at a wedding this weekend and a person at my table is currently reading the Long Walk and I was like “I know it’s amazing but haven’t read it myself!” My Bachman reading has barely cracked the surface. Excited to still have those. Overall there’s still some I’m purposely saving (such as 11/22/63 & Under the Dome) because I didn’t want to read everything in a few years. Wanted to savior and prolong his stories as long as possible
It's funny how many of us have Insomnia on the back-burner at the same time. My wife snagged it for me in a free neighborhood street library box and I keep getting more books that are priority. I will get to it eventually!
It is very intimidating haha, I finally read it last year. You're better off reading the Dark Tower series before though
I'm reading Insomnia right now and every time I pick it up and see how long it is I just keep thinking that I hope it's worth it lol
If you google Stephen king reading checklist this one should come right up! I think it might be missing a few such as obviously the newest one but also Different Seasons
I'm about 200 pages into Insomnia and it's not bad. The Dark Tower tie in is really cool though, so I'm glad I did it this way.
“Each thing I do I rush through so I can do something else” is the Stephen King novel quote that most defines me I fear
Started Bag of Bones last night. Couldn't decide between that one or Duma Key, but went with Bag of Bones since the copy I grabbed from a used store a while ago has been on my shelf, unread, a little longer.
Ended up liking The Institute well enough. Not top tier King, but far from his worst. I wonder if he'll do a sequel one day — it would be an obvious retread of IT, but it would make sense to revisit the surviving kids 30 years in the future.
Bag of Bones & the Institute are both very good! Feel like Bag of Bones falls in the criminally underrated category
I haven’t had as much time to read it since starting as I’d hoped, but I am enjoying it quite a bit! About 200 pages in, so finally kind of getting to the meat of the story a bit.
It’s also a great summer read, obviously. I also still have Duma Key resting on my shelves and will probably break it out next summer (or if we take a vacation in the winter to Aruba)
I've always liked The Institute. We know he writes kids well. I think he did a great job with those characters. Insomnia was really great for me. Like with some others mentioned, not top tier but as a Dark Tower adjacent book, it really fit in nicely. I'm glad I read it before Song of Susannah. I'm taking a short King break to read some other stuff but then when I dive back in, it'll be Song of Susannah and The Dark Tower (VII). It's wild I started this journey two years ago. I'm glad I slow played it. It's been so enjoyable to return to the characters each time.
I hope you enjoy Song of Susannah because it was the only Dark Tower book I didn’t like. He just does something in it that entirely didn’t work for me, BUT I hope you enjoy it!
I've heard the same from literally everyone, haha. The good thing is it's definitely the shortest of all of them.
