I buy King books but also listen to the audiobook versions too. Will crank out chunks in the car, doing yard work, etc and pick up in the book or vice versa.
I used audiobooks for some of the short story anthologies. They take me forever to physically read for some reason. I love King for his character work, may be that once I get into their motivations the story ends and I start over on the next short in the collection.
The only King book I did on audiobook was The Institute because I really wanted to read it and I had a long road trip I was going on for a week for work. I banged it out during the road trip. I generally like to read physical copies of King stuff. For some reason, with him specifically, it just lands better for me. I am pro audiobooks though, especially for non-fiction.
About halfway through Firestarter and it's probably my least favorite of the 10 or so Kings I've read. Not bad at all and I'm still enjoying it, just hasn't grabbed me as much as the others.
King is historically not a great judge of the quality of adaptations of his work, ha. I am looking forward to that one though.
Okay so I'm halfway through Wolves of the Calla and very pleased with my decision to read Salem's Lot beforehand, haha. It's definitely much better knowing what I know going into it. I can also see why Wolves is a letdown after Wizard and Glass. 380 pages in and nothing has really happened. So much table setting. I'm cool with it though because I understand how this works. I've also decided I'm going to read Insomnia before I do Song of Susannah.
Wolves is easily my least favourite in the series lmao. the reveal towards the end had me sighing loudly in disappointment. thankfully it picks up again after that
Yeah, his taste in adaptations is always questionable, but I have high hopes for a handful of reasons. We should get a trailer in the next few months if it’s really coming out in September/October on Max.
I was actually considering The Institute for my next King read (other options are Insomnia and The Talisman). Cool to see there's a show coming, although reviews will have to be great to get me to sign up for MGM+.
I have three stories left in You Like It Darker. Putting it on pause so I can do Cujo before I return and start Rattlesnakes.
Finished Firestarter and yeah that's my least favorite so far. Started Christine yesterday already digging it.
I actually really liked The Institute. I think it’ll translate way better to screen though. Lots of cool things you can do. I just worry it’ll look like a knock off Stranger Things.
Okay so I actually wound up loving Wolves of the Calla. It almost felt like a side quest. I also kinda like how there was a lot of focus on Jake’s maturation. I’m going to read Insomnia next.
