I had a good time with this earlier. Feels similar to Foxing's Nearer My God in the way they're taking risks and pushing the boundary of their sound.
I was lukewarm on some of the singles but I think they sound a lot better in the context of the album. Digging this in totality, it’s reminding me of something I can’t quite put my finger on
I love this. Viewing is still my favorite but they’ve evolved from that sound and I’m here for it. This band is so creative. There’s some unique stuff on here
Agree that this doesn’t hit as immediately as Ferried Away but I am still really enjoying it, the horns are an absolute highlight for me
Kinda not into this new album from them - some of the guitars sound really sour and out of tune, especially on leads, and the mix/master feels pretty rough at times, like the intro track. I'll give it another shot when I can give it a closer listen (I was listening at work over speakers, might have just misheard things), but I'm pretty surprised. Ferried Away and Viewing were both fantastic. "Monsieur Hawkweed" was the only song I really got into on a first listen because of those issues.
This album was a grower for me. Not as immediate as Ferried Away, which was in my top five AOTY last year, so maybe I was expecting too much from it at first. Not huge on the vocal filters they used throughout and that’s a huge drawback for me, but I’ve gotten used to it. Overall a good album, though.
Depending on why someone liked Ferried Away, I can understand being less into Lunger. Ferried Away has much more post-hardcore flavor. I just listened to them back to back, and Ferried Away feels like a band in transition. I personally love where they landed with Lunger! Apparently, I’ve already played it more than Ferried Away, but I’m listening to a lot more music, in general, this year.
