  1. I like this more than pretty much anything any of those bands have done in a long time. This is awesome

Also - since I mentioned it earlier in this thread, I have recently been listening to Summer Bones from Hit The Lights again and I have to say I probably slept on that record because it was released after Invicta. This is really solid stuff. It’s been on my rotation for a solid week now. Held up very well.

I always loved Summer Bones. The title track and blasphemy, myself, and I are my favorite tracks.

I feel like HTL is so hated on this site in general but I just can't figure out why they didn't reach ATL status...all their stuff is so damn catchy

I honestly think HTL's "Fucked Up Kids" should be in the running for one of the best pop-punk songs of all time. Absolutely killer track from an incredibly consistent and underrated band.

Totally agree. Summer Bones got this “meh, generic pop punk” reaction but I absolutely love the hooks on that record and actually find the guitar work, drums and harmonies to be pretty cool

I never checked out Invicta but I feel like Skip School Start Fights should have skyrocketed them. Drop The Girl and Stay Out have hooks for days. Coast to Coast off the EP after that had a beautiful chorus too

Double post, but always loved their cover of The Warrior by Scandal too

I didnt know they were hated. I thougth summer bones was well received.

  13. Invicta is a ground-breaking record. Summer Bones is an incredibly solid pop punk/easycore album. The band was doing cool things with the singles they dropped post-Summer Bones too. I would love to see them be active again but I know it hasn't been easy for them.

They were and are an awful live band. Dude cannot sing in a live setting.

I remember Jason Tate said HTL was the definition of generic pop punk or something like that and many people agreed. Lol but this Thief Club song that Nick dropped a couple years is one of his best, definitely check it out if you haven't cause it's damn good.

honestly this just triggered a hidden memory that i actually did see them live like 7 or 8 years ago at slam dunk festival, totally forgot. i don't think they were actively bad! just obviously not a memorable performance.

that's actually a perfect segue back into talking about state champs because i've been watching more recent live videos of theirs and it's obvious that derek's voice is not okay. doesn't sound healthy on a single video i've seen from that headline run they did at the end of last year. even going back to some shows from 2019 it's off.

maybe someone here's seen them recently and can tell me i'm wrong but sounds like he's dealing with some real damage.

I saw them in NYC during their last go-around he started off okay, but got considerably worse as the show went on. Many of the videos i’ve seen echo your sentiments. He sounds tired and his voice sounds totally shot. Hope all is well

Bands haven't been playing a lot of shows the past couple years obviously, so doesn't it seem strange his voice would be having issues? That may sound stupid but I'm not a vocalist

Do you think the single coming next week is the one with Ben Barlow? Looks like the last word in that one may be "you" which is consistent
