After that first LP this band hasn’t come close to living up to how good I always thought they could have been. Generic. Safe. Meh.
Listening to this as I walk down the Atlantic City boardwalk for the first time, and I’m loving it. Just a super fun, no frills, throwback pop punk record
It might grow on me. I think the singles soured me on it ahead of time – EBY and Just Sound are probably the two worst songs on the album
Reminds me of that Hit The Lights album “Summer Bones” - just simple, fun, well-produced pop punk music
Agreed, not slighting this album but Summer Bones is phenomenal. The Chrissy Costanza and Tenpenny tracks are my favorite so far. This feels like about what I expected State Champs to put out in 2022.
I don’t listen to this genre often and have never listened to this band before today but with it being 75 and sunny out this was the perfect record for the weather today. Fun, catchy, sounds like 12 other bands and maybe my memory is shot but while sounding familiar, not familiar enough to be bored by it. Enjoyable summer record.
I feel like every album of theirs has amazing songs that show progression, but then they're mixed in with mediocre songs. They have yet to put out an album that is killer front to back. This is a decent album but with a 4 year wait I expected more.
Everybody But You is still an absolute fuckin jam and I love it. Rest of the album is still pretty damn solid for me, generally they haven't really disappointed me and I enjoy all their stuff. It might not be the most genre-pushing stuff but it's still fun.
I enjoyed Living Proof quite a bit, but this has me going back to it more than I expected to. Some catchy shit.
Listened through once. I really like Living Proof. This one just seems more focused and to point and it works so well.
Sundress sounds like a Hit The Lights song, guitar riff "breakdown" and all. EDIT: They all sound like HTL songs.
This isn’t my usual thing anymore, and most of it has been in one ear and out the other, but Half Empty shows me they are somewhat interested in trying new stuff, and Where Were You is pretty much their style of pop punk executed perfectly IMO.
this is better than living proof, but it’s just another state champs record (if that makes sense lol). fun summer album though!
Yeah this isn’t doing it for me. I’ve always thought this band had a lot of potential and I’d love to see them evolve/experiment. However, they rely on the same old cookie cutter stuff and it gets boring/very safe after awhile. It’s like they’ve released the same album time and time again.
