  1. afaik they haven't been telling any other stories that take place during or after the sequel trilogy since then anyway

    it's not happening.

they've been in active development of multiple films that take place post-ST (one of which is currently in post-production and releases in a year), have various books and comics that have either recently been released or are about to be released that intertwine with those movies, and have spent several years seeding elements into their various Disney+ shows (and to some extent the upcoming Mando movie) that fill in some of the timeline gaps between the OT and ST. they even just did physical media rereleases for all 3 trilogies and Rouge One and Solo within the past month.

the parks/merchandising thing is just them following the money/general fan interest. going to Disneyland and hearing Ahsoka say "the World Between Worlds is fracturing" is nothing more that marketing jargon/a quick lore explanation for them adding characters to the parks that general audiences/parkgoers are more familiar with. i don't think it means much in the grand scheme of their plans for future stories, and it certainly doesn't mean they're going to retcon those movies just because more people show up to a SW theme park expecting to see Darth Vader or that none of those films are in the top 10 on Disney+ (especially given just how much SW content they've churned out in the past 10 years).

for a fanbase who's been pretty adamant about Disney needing to move on from "the Skywalker story", retconning/sequestering an entire trilogy of movies into its own timeline (one that made the studio billions of dollars per film, critical reception aside) would be a monumentally stupid way for Disney to respond. every time they limit creative decisions to either a) appease a vocal minority of the fanbase that will never be satisfied with anything but "the Star Wars they grew up with", or b) cater to only the most general audiences, the results have been notably mixed. retconning the ST to tell even more stories connected to the OT feels cowardly, and just gives the most insufferable motherfuckers more ammunition in this ongoing, exhausting discourse about the franchise. not saying Disney's allergic to cowardice, but pulling that move feels like a situation with only one winner.

TLJ is the only sequel i love (long live Rian Johnson), and i share many critiques others have about the other two ST films. but i don't think people not giving them the same attention as other SW projects is indicative of this demand for them to be erased from existence, nor do i think it's productive to keep complaining about movies you didn't like when there are hundreds of other stories being told in the franchise in different forms of media, many of them great. it's a skill issue not being able to move on from movies that came out nearly 10 years ago. it's Snyderverse-level delusion.

I think that’s why the viewership is so low on Disney+. The prequels had the clone wars to keep it relevant. Disney/Lucasfilm have mostly steered away from the sequel timeline. Aside from the Rey film which I’m not sure is still happening

I think the Ryan Gosling movie next year takes place after the sequels. And there is a “Resistance” TV series.

there are a handful of books and comics they've released in the past few years that take place between the films that provide some more connective tissue, and there was one kind of post-IX book that came out either late last year/earlier this year.
i'm assuming this is somehow being folded into the supposed Kinberg trilogy. Daisy still seems adamant that it's happening in some form. there's not really an easy way to come up with a TCW-styled show given the limitations of the ST timeline essentially taking place over a two year period. it'd either have to come before or shortly after, and a lot of that ground is currently being covered in printed media.
correct. Starfighter is set 5 years after TROS, and Resistance - which aired between the release of TLJ and TROS (and shortly after) - interweaves between all three films (mostly the first two). but it's a show aimed at much younger children, which automatically cuts out a good number of potential viewers.

  6. They should just make a good movie imo

  7. The Rian Trilogy will be the key to all of this

  10. maybe twice and I’ve actually cooled off a lot on the last Jedi in recent years. So including mando which will probably stink that’s 2/6 (3 if I’m being generous and including TFA).

I don’t care that much because we have gotten some good tv out of the era but if that stops and we get crap movies it will be sad.

3/5 to me are good/great. Solo is fine. Only truly terrible movie is ROS. I can live with that hit rate. It’s about the same hit rate as the shows.

I feel like Mando & Grogu will be a miss, hopefully I’m wrong though.

I’m fine with pessimism but I’m not scoring it as a bad movie without it being released first lol

  14. i'm mostly just expecting that to feel like a few episodes of the show made into a movie, albeit with the bigger budget that entails. i don't really go into Marvel/Star Wars with high expectations, i'm just here to enjoy the ride

Watching the series for the first time right now. New Hope ripped. Watched Empire last night was mind blowing. Can’t wait to experience Return of the Jedi tonight!

People seem to forget how hated the PT films were for a long time too. Now that the kids that grew up with them are adults the view has changed. I'd say give it a few years when the kids that grew up with the ST films and the views will probably shift again. And lastly, nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars "fans"

I saw a clip shared from that MandoGrogu movie that I guess was an action scene with those walking things, and it unfortunately looked like shit. And not fun, like, camp shit or pulpy or whatever.

I’d been warming up to the idea that I’d see the movie (in spite of not being a fan of the show), with low expectations, and maybe have some fun. But instead, there’s gonna be a Star Wars theatrical film I’ve never seen. Which, kinda feels weird, but whatever.

Hope there’s one I can care about again eventually. (Probably not from that Deadpool director!)

Can say my 6 year old loved the ST films, but we might have cheated because he never really watched any of them until we went to Disney World and he got to experience Galaxy's Edge down there haha. Watching Kylo Ren walk around with the storm troopers and running into Rey who was sneaking around was a really cool experience for him. That plus the Resistance ride really got him into it.

Funnily enough now that he's watched them all I think he likes the prequels more now haha

i have a memory of the last time i went to Disney about a decade ago, and two little girls who i believe were sisters - one who was dressed like AOTC Padme and the other who was dressed like Rey - were stopped by a set of Stormtroopers and escorted by them around the Animation Courtyard section of Hollywood Studios. pretty fun to witness.

My daughter loves Star Wars and her favorite characters are Padme and Rey, so the newer trilogies have really helped shape her enjoyment of the franchise.

It’s also worth noting all 3 sequels made over a billion dollars each. I have a hard time imagining a scenario where three movies that single-handedly paid the acquisition cost of Lucasfilm, including one that was the third highest grossing of all time at one point, would be decanonized.

To me, The Rise of Skywalker doesn't exist. I made up my own ending in my head. I walked out of the theater and never watched it again. It's a damn shame what we ended up with after The Last Jedi, and Rian deserves his trilogy.

Regarding MandoGrogu, I don't have high expectations. I'll watch in theaters once and if it sucks, oh well.
