true, and this is a very good point - my only twist on it would be that the payoff for having a project where a very talented film-maker and your big star are both extremely passionate about it would make it worth it for me. as opposed to having such a dumb and lazy creative choice be used in service of a dumb and lazy cynical cash grab of a movie that nobody making it gave a shit about. these are the movies where they originally brought the death star back again in the third one after all.

I personally would love to see hunt for Ben solo, but I think probably the best thing to do For the brand and public perception of Star Wars would be round out the mando era, do a couple of compelling new stories and launch the next trilogy that Simon Kinberg is working on. I’m surprised there has been so little done with the Sequels in animation similar to clone wars really rounding out the prequels. I don’t see how doing a movie that was so divisive that Star Wars hasn’t had a theatrical release in 7 years and then returning to the characters from that movie is a great idea. That being said I love Adam driver and personally would love a mystic journey back to life and the light for Ben solo. I get while it got panned by Disney.

So is there no longer a Rey movie in development?

Daisy seems to indicate that it's still happening, supposedly having read a script and noting that there are still a lot of moving parts. wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being folded into the Kinberg trilogy though.

There will probably be a lot of changes with the transition in leadership. I’m doubtful most announced in the projects will be released.

Bad Batch seemed to start some of the story of how Palpatine came back, and the Mandoverse seems to be dealing with the story between OT and ST and how the New Republic fell apart. Hoping for more animated shows in the quality of Bad Batch that deal with the ST characters at some point though

I have a feeling Rey may appear by the end of Starfighter.

  13. Rian Johnson's trilogy may be the key to all of this

I think this is a joke but honestly he prolly could fix it. I've seen those Knives Out movies, he knows how to make connections.

A Rian Johnson trilogy where he has total creative control of all 3 films and isn't trying to clash with a precursor would have a high chance of being good. I think that boat has sailed though. Kind of seems like Rian is over it.

I agree about Rian Johnson and think he would absolutely elevate things to a very high level, but honestly, having almost anyone sit down and write out a story arc ahead of time and ideally even the screenplays and then sticking to those would likely make for coherent and watchable movies, and possibly even enjoyable ones.

I think Colin Trevorrow is pretty terrible, but his script for Episode 9 at least attempted to work with the stories of the prior two movies to tell a satisfying story and bring the whole thing to a logical conclusion, and if they had just filmed that it would have been exponentially better than The Rise of Skywalker, even though I don't think that script was anything incredible or amazing.

Duel of the Fates is not great, but it is definitely a better script than The Rise of Skywalker simply because, like you said, it does at least try to build upon TLJ and TFA. However, Jurassic World: Dominion was possibly an even worse film than TROS, so it seems like it would have probably been bad either way.

I can't agree about JW: Dominion being worse than TROS - I couldn't even finish TROS, and I did make it thru Dominion, though I did have a bunch of drinks and was pretty drunk by the end

they should have stuck with the Duel of the Fates script though no matter who ultimately ended up directing. it at least attempted to tell a coherent story that tied up storylines from the prior two movies in a satisfying way

Duel of the Fates with a third director that isn’t Trevorrow could have been something. But I’m of the opinion that it was always going to be shit unless they delayed the production and actually attempted to write something worthwhile.

see, I thought the Duel of the Fates script was halfway decent - nothing epic or amazing that I feel the need to go to bat for it hard or anything, but decent

It’s strongest aspect is it follows through on an arc for Finn that was clearly setup in the first two. I don’t know why that storyline was punted. The Rey/Kylo Morris arc is an interesting tie in to the Clone Wars, but it feels inconsequential to the rest of the plot. It’s not great when it feels like your main characters are on a side quest.

honestly, I can't even remember most of the story details, but I remember liking the resolution to Domhnall Gleeson's general bad guy character a lot

I could never get over the idea of Rey using the dark side and “controlled anger” being the definition of balance from Duel of the Fates. That idea totally misses the mark of what it means to be a Jedi to me.
