I know it’s not like Star Wars hasn’t had big names before, but for some reason it feels odd to see so many recognizable names/faces in one Star Wars project.

really curious to see what they do with Amy Adams here. aside from her, Gosling, Goth, and Smith, i don't know the rest of the cast's work

Also, based off one image, it looks like another lone wolf and cub story. Gosling has to transport a kid from A to B but grows attached along the way.

sounds like it (and predictable for a Levy project). not opposed if done right, but Mando has already covered similar ground

Star Wars just doing the same story over and over. That was Bad Batch also. I'm not excited for this film at all and think it will be forgettable. Hope I'm wrong.

I love this movie. Unlike the direction the franchise seems to be taking, I actually prefer standalone Star Wars stories instead of endlessly connected plots. I think that’s where the second season of Andor struggles—trying too hard to tie everything perfectly into Rogue One, which feels unnecessary to me.

Lost me at season 2 of Andor struggling. It's among my favorite seasons of television ever but to each their own

  10. And solo shoehorns in a bunch of connective tissue to the overall universe

I am not one to talk in this. I love connective tissue. I lost my shit when Katie Sackhoff showed up as Bo Katan in Mando. To me, the problem is not these "cameos" or whatever you want to call them; the problem is when this type of things becomes a crutch and the storytelling suffers at the expense.

Now, an argument can be made that this type of cameo would inevitably lead to an inferior story but to that I'd say you should read Lost Stars which manages to tell a singularly impressive story within the Star Wars canon alongside and oftentimes in tandem with events and characters from the OT.

The problem in Mando isn't cameos, it's the fact that Favreau can't write deeper than a kiddy pool. He had a chance to write about someone realizing they were raised in a cult and struggling to come to terms with and get out of it but instead he chooses to ingrain his character further into it.

I loved the second season, but much of the last two episodes felt too beholden to Rogue One. Studios sometimes forget that viewers have imagination and can jump from A to C without needing an exact explanation of B.

I don’t remember Solo trying so hard to connect existing plots—aside from Darth Maul—but it’s been a while since I last watched it, so I might be wrong.

“Hey let’s do a guy and a kid, but without a helmet.”

“You mean like we did with the Kenobi show?”

“No way. This time they’ll both be dudes.”

    “So, like Mando?”

    “I said no helmet!”

Plot twist, the ship is the lone wolf and Gosling is the cub

I just watched a couple of episodes of Skeleton Crew, but isn’t this basically the plot too?

I also love the “connective tissue,” but I do think there’s an obsession with showing every single second of certain characters’ lives. In my opinion it’s often unnecessary and, as you said, sometimes it actually hurts the story.

For example Bo-Katan’s appearance really surprised me and I loved it and gave Mando some context and purpose. However, the direction the show has taken since then feels excessive to me and pulls focus away from what originally made me fall in love with it.

You’re not the first to recommend me Lost Stars, maybe it’s time I pick it up!

Yea this is the most disappointing part. Season two set up the character to realize this. The inclusions of Bo and Boba actually worked because they showed Din that he can be a mandalorian and not be part of this weird group. But instead he gives up Grogu to a cult and then season three just kind of forgets all that to just keep filling in Mandalorian lore instead.

No. That was a guy with 4 kids. Totally different.

No. That was 4/5 guys with one kid and they often wore helmets. Totally different.

Skeleton Crew is more coming of age than lone wolf & cub. It kind of starts as that, but evolves out of it as the series goes on.

The use of canonical is weird, like they preemptively are trying to get ahead of some imagined argument about its authenticity.
