A week + 2 days, since they pushed it to the 27th. We get the first two episodes that day though!

I really want to be excited for Star Wars with Kenobi and Celebration next week. But Kenneth’s comments from the other day are a real downer for me.

I’d been a Star Wars kick since May the 4th and have taken to just watching a shit ton of Rebels again. But man, it’s just a bummer.

    - Put Favreau and Filoni together because they both had Mandalorian ideas (Filoni's was about Mandalorian history/more in line with his work on Clone Wars)

    - Likes that Favreau has made a long-term commitment to his projects and is looking for filmmakers that want to do the same on the feature side of things (has been talking with a few potential people but doesn't give names)

    - Confirms Boba was originally being planned as a feature

    - They aren't going to do Luke Skywalker without Mark Hamill (and that similar to how she wouldn't do Indiana Jones without Ford, she thinks she shouldn't have done Han without him)

    - Rey Kenobi was off the table relatively quickly because they thought it flew in the face of Lucas' mythology of the Jedi and their relationship with attachment

    - The Acolyte is a test for a new era in the Star Wars universe and, if successful, could be the first in a batch of projects set in the same time period (similar to The Mandalorian)

    - Vital to get away from the Skywalker Saga, because it would be wrong to keep chipping away within the construct of George's storytelling. (That won't stop, but it's talking a lot of time and discussion for where to go next)

    - Publishing has been a testing ground for new eras

    - They have a roadmap for the future of films. Taika's movie fits more into that roadmap than Rogue Squadron.

    - Hesitates to say trilogies, but more-so "persistent storytelling"

    - Rian is still part of the brain trust at Lucasfilm and they still intent to do his movies, but he's busy with Netflix and Knives Out right now

    - They'll get more specific about feature films in a couple months

Anyone else going to Star Wars Celebration next week? I'm putting the finishing touches on my Din armor and am really looking forward to wearing it at Celebration.

'Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith': Exclusive excerpt shows Rey's parents

So, um, I saw this earlier and just laughed at the fact that they finally bothered to name Rey’s parents. But now I’ve actually read the excerpt featuring them and yikes, they are OBSESSED with making sure we know that Rey is who she is due to genetics and not because of her upbringing or choices she’s made or the environment she grew up in.

she’s only powerful in the force because of her Palpatine blood. She’s only smart and good with tech and a good pilot because of her moms blood. Rey didn’t become a good mechanic because she was forced to learn to survive on Jakku. She wasn’t a good pilot because she studied them growing up as she scavenged them. It’s in her blood. No effort required. It’s all fucking genetics. Rey has no real free will or choice in anything that makes her, her. Her life was predestined by blood.

between this and some of the stuff Kennedy said in Vanity Fair, it’s really hard to think they are going in a good direction. Book of Boba Fett was ungodly lame. I really hope Obi-Wan can be really good, but it’s hard to not feel down about Star Wars right now. Like I said earlier I’m ploughing through Resistance and it’s so so bad.

why couldn’t they just let Rey be her own person?

I hate them so so much.
It’s absolutely baffling the way they have treated Rey like garbage since TROS.

My fiancé has never seen TPM or AOTC, and doesn’t really remember ROTS, but wants to be up to speed for Kenobi. I found a fan edit of the whole trilogy that is supposed to be very good (I also think every installment comes in at about 95 minutes), so we’re going to watch those throughout the week.

Curious to see how well they flow and how much editing really helps these movies. And for the record, she agreed to this experiment haha.

ROTS is a top 3 Star Wars film and I stand by that

Yea… best I can do is maybe it being in the top 6. But realistically it is too 8.

Rise is legitimately bad and is a terrible ending, but still has fun moments to watch. Rey/Kylo fighting each other across the Force, then Rey/Ben fighting together across the Force is so good.

Sith is just a slog to a predetermined ending, and Clones is only slightly better.

triple post but i went down a fan-edit rabbit hole last night and will probably watch the Hal9000 edits for the prequels and then his sequel redo soon.

The emotional weight, the grand scale, and the music score of ROTS are why it's always been one of my favorites. If the film didn't rely so much on CGI instead of practical sets then I'd probably rank it #1 or #2 tbh.

The longer I’ve sat with The Rise of Skywalker the lower it gets. I prefer Revenge of the Sith for sure. Maybe even Phantom Menace. Attack of the Clones will probably always be the bottom, but man does Rise really want that bottom spot. Rise might have a few more good moments, but it’s lows are soul level deep. It’s an abomination. An utter disgrace to the franchise and its characters that leaves a foul taste in your mouth that won’t go away. Repugnant in so many ways.

  21. Yeah it's such a bummer. I have tried to watch it a few times since the theatre but can never get very far.

The Phantom Menace has grown on me as time goes on. Attack of the Clones will always be the worst.

Phantom Menace is a chaotic mess, but I am able to have fun with it. Clones is boring. Sith feels like it has a good movie trapped in it somewhere, but it's too bloated with poorly executed spectacle. As @Greg said, Rise (while not without its moments) just feels soulless. It's a frustrating and at times insulting movie. I know it had a very rushed production, but it's so perplexing how 80% of the choices in that movie were signed off on.

On the bright-side, TROS is so bad that it helped me move away from being obsessed with this franchise. While I do miss the excitement I used to get around a new Star Wars announcement, I feel like my mental health has benefitted the less I've tracked the news and discussed it online.

    there is one way out

Attack of the Clones is definitely the worst.

    I'd rank the prequels as:
Revenge of the Sith>Phantom Menace>Attack of the Clones

That might be warmest Star Wars take ever. Lol.
