the fact that Kylo is so obsessed with Vader leads me to assume he doesn't know that Vader turned against the emperor. I really want an Anakin/Kylo moment.

I think that would be the only way I'd be OK with any sort of redemption of Kylo, if Darth Vader himself taught Kylo the error of his ways.

McDiarmid shows up to Celebration quite often. Both him and Hayden were there together two years ago signing and as a photo op. Harloff’s favorite character is Palpatine so I think it’s more wishful thinking than actually being plausible or story based.

For me the story thread of Plagues speech is just there to insinuate that Palpatine had a hand in creating Anakin and a point of manipulation to turn him. I wouldn't be upset if that came back in somehow, but I'm not hoping for it either.

There are so many little threads that this one could run with and that excites the hell out of me. Just a few for example:
    • How is the Resistance going to rebuild from a crew inside the Falcon to a full-blown rebellion?
    • Will taking down war profiteers play a role?
    • Kylo's number two hates him and is the main general, does he lead a coup?
    • What does Kylo want? I can't see him being internally satisfied with being the ruler of the Galaxy. A tortured soul like his will probably be a more tyrannical ruler than even Palpatine. He might only care about destroying Rey and even himself
    • Are the Knights of Ren coming into play? What is their role in all of this?
    • Finn, Rose, Poe, Rey love triangle?
    • Poe is a real leader now, but how does he deal with that responsibility going forward?
    • Rey has accepted her role in the Galaxy, how is she progressing with the force? Training new Jedi? Or she out to try and understand why the force seems to have chosen her now?
Maybe none of those things get addressed, there are still dozens of other threads I can see them picking up.

I've wondered about this myself and I feel like it would be more significant from a narrative perspective if he did know but felt Vader was ultimately weak for turning against the Dark Side in the end.

At the same time, I'm pretty sure he has to not know because he wouldn't idolize Vader the way he does if he thought Vader was weak in the end. Unless he's considering "Vader" and "Anakin" two different people like George retconned Obi-wan into thinking in Jedi.

I don't mind him, but he seems to let his personal feelings guide his speculation too much. He's not a fan of TLJ, which is perfectly fine, but he keeps pushing this narrative that JJ must obviously dislike most of it too and that he's going to retcon a lot of it. He might a little, but I don't think he's just going to ignore the things Rian setup.

I think people are ignoring that Rian seems to be the only director Kennedy has been fully satisfied with. If the powers that be at Lucasfilm were uneasy with the direction Rian was going in, I think they would have stepped in. They appear to have done it with every other movie. JJ himself even said he loved the script Rian wrote (though, he was never going to publically say "ehh, not the direction I was going in", obviously). I doubt it just completely ignores TLJ like Harloff keeps insinuating.

Yeah, like, I've been saying since TLJ came out that there's definitely a reason why the studio barely meddled in TLJ at all compared to how they thoroughly messed with Rogue One and Solo. All these people expecting Kennedy and JJ to go in there and "fix" what Johnson did by ignoring/retconning it are going to be sorely disappointed, I think, when IX finally comes out.

They literally gave him a trilogy based on how much they liked working with him haha.

Love all this. So excited. I think Lando will definitely play a big factor in rebuilding. As far as Kylo as a ruler I’m not sure how I want him to be. Part of me wants to see him completely unhinged but another kind of wants me to see him be an actual great leader who’s composed. Like he’s gone so far that he’s not in turmoil and temperamental anymore, he’s self-actualized but just a very immoral leader. Kind of like Thrawn

Exactly. And also I'm with you re: Harloff and other people that disliked TLJ majorly letting their hate of that film bias their opinions/predictions about IX. It's honestly getting kind of sad because I know that it's just going to lead to them disliking the next movie as well when it, again, doesn't do what they predicted/expected/wanted it to do. Just like TLJ.

Not to mention Iger supposedly really loved TLJ as well which is more important than KKs approval

The idea of Hux leading some kind of coup against Ren is something that I definitely think will happen. The end of TLJ was, in my opinion, clearly foreshadowing that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that happen and Hux is dead within 10 minutes of the movie starting

1.) The powers that be allowed Rian Johnson to finish his Star Wars movie and did not:

    A) Fire him long before even going into production (Trevorow).
    B) Fire him near the end of production and hire another director to reshoot the entire movie (Lord & Miller / Howard).
    C) Hire a writer to write reshoots but actually take the production away from him and hand it to the writer to also direct the reshoots and recraft the film in the editing room (Edwards / Gilroy).

2.) The film went on to gross $1,332,539,889.00 at the global box office.

3.) They offered him the opportunity to write and direct an entire new trilogy.

Yeah, they were extremely dissatisfied with what Rian Johnson did and are definitely planning on fixing and retconning all of it.

(*Edited because properly cutting & pasting from Boxofficemojo.com is apparently beyond my skill set.)

Which is in addition to the fact that what he did with TLJ was good and also Great™ so why would they want to erase that

I don’t know where you got that number but to bolster your point TLJ made 1.33 billion

My bad. I cut and pasted the wrong movie's BO. Than k you.

I want to clarify, I don’t think they fully took Rogue One away from Edwards, but I really think it was somewhat similar to the Tobe Hooper / Steven Spielberg dynamic on Poltergeist, in that Gareth Edwards kinda stepped aside and let Gilroy do what he was gonna do and didn’t fight about it or challenge him, but continued to work on the film in an altered / diminished capacity. I actually have a lot of respect for how it seemed like he handled himself during all of that, but even more so with how he handled himself with the press and at junkets and everything after. That was probably really awkward but I feel like he acted like a true professional.

Compare that to Gilroy who has been kind of a smug dick about how he fixed the movie.

I know. I was aware of the guy before that, but I didn't really have an opinion of him at all. In literally everything I read about or from him regarding Rogue One he comes off like a huge prick.

Paraphrased, but that's essentially what he's said.

I am very curious to know how Edwards version differed. Somewhat related, I think my dream director for that movie would have been Kathryn Bigelow. That being said, I do really like the movie we got.
