Wrong movie, but also strong disagree. While I'll admit the way Leia floats back to the ship looks goofy as hell, I so much prefer her surviving and demonstrating her power in the force to her just being blow out of the ship without making any significant impact on the story.

Like, I’ve had people, even who like that movie a lot, share an unedited gif of it as if the badness of it is self evident... but even now, w/out the score, at this size, I 100% sincerely believe that this looks Actually Very Good™, & cannot be convinced otherwise.

If you’re in the 99% of the population that thinks it looks bad, I’m sorry that you’re wrong.

    eh still looks goofy.

  4. Looks no worse, at the very least, than major scenes in Endgame.

She could have been blown up and then impacted the story as a force ghost. It's not a binary choice. In any case I don't really have a problem with the way the scene unfolded on screen. For all its controversy, the movie looks great.

I think it jarred some people (myself included) because conceptually someone flying unprotected through space hadn't been established in Star Wars. Seeing Henry Cavill do it in Batman v Superman isn't as weird because we accept that Superman can do that.

As a story beat itself though, I like it, and on my second viewing of the Last Jedi I wasn't bothered by the effects.

I sometimes wonder how much having to wait until Friday night before seeing it, & reading up on it during that first 24 hrs it was out, affected my experience w/ the film for the better. I'd like to think I would've loved it all just as much going in blind, but maybe some of the choices would've taken a second viewing for me to decide, "yeah, I like that."

I think in a vacuum (no pun intended) the scene would have felt perfectly fine to me, but as it played in the real world unfortunately, watching it with the heartbreaking knowledge of Carrie Fisher's unexpected and untimely passing just made the whole thing feel strange and awkward to me. Not necessarily a fault of the film or the choices they did make, but more a sad side effect of her having died the way she did recently in real life. I think it also would have felt strange and awkward to me to have her get blown out into space and just freeze in the vacuum and die that way, even though I fully 100% believed that was what was happening while watching it the first time.

I don't know if there was a 'good' way to handle the whole situation, but I think I would have had Kylo Ren kill Leia in that sequence, but I certainly wouldn't have had her get blown out into space and have the camera hold on her while she died that way.

True, I suppose I just prefer the story choice to keep her alive.

All this talk about that scene just makes me want to watch TLJ again.

Day 3, Revenge Of The Sith

    - Now this is when shit gets real. Movie takes off running from the start, doesn’t let up too much until we finally dive in after Anakin confronts Palpatine and turns on Mace Windu. Then “this is how democracy dies..” and it keeps going. Easily my favorite of the first trilogy, not quite a true classic but a fine dark action film. I usually find movies where the bad guy wins more interesting.

ROTS is a pretty good Star Wars movie. I’ve never understood the hate. It’s almost non stop action filled with a handful of lightsaber fights.

    Anakin and Obi vs Dooku
    Mace vs Palpatine
    Order 66
    Anakin vs Obi
    Yoda vs Sidious

    So many good moments

The only one of those scenes I think is actually pretty good is the Order 66 stuff. And I think I'm just now realizing I really don't like any of the lightsaber fights in ROTS haha.

I distinctly remember Rey's theme in TROS being used very well.

no lightsaber fight in the prequel trilogy is good - DotF is saved by the great score.

Anakin vs Obi Wan in Revenge is hilariously comical. Them jumping around on whatever they were on in a flame river is so, so stupid

So this thread is on dope. Yoda vs Sidious alone is one of the best scenes in the entire series. Watching them throw the senate pods at each other is Star Wars at its best.

Don't do it. Does it and gets his leg chops off and then claims to love him but instead of putting him out of his misery and just killing him, or picking him up to save his life he just lets him burn alive, probably one of the most painful things in the world.

Yoda v Sidious is solid when they're not actually using lightsabers. Them throwing senate seats at each other, yoda catching lightning -- all good stuff. But then it just kind of ends. Yoda just gives up. I feel like there should have been a squad of clone troopers come in to surround him so he had reason to leave.

Yoda shouldn't have ever fought on screen. It's dumb and cheapens the character

This video is really good. Of all the things I was disappointed in by this movie the music was one of the biggest letdowns. Just about each Star Wars movie up until this point had introduced some incredibly memorable themes, but I can only recall maybe one moment I really liked musically in TROS.

Plus I'll never forgive them for teasing a reworked version of Duel of the Fates in the commercials and then failing to include a single theme from the prequels in the actual movie.

The moments between laser sword swinging and telekinesis is Star Wars at its best.

I want that new version of Dual of the Fates. GIVE IT TO ME.

That video also makes me really disappointed that we’ll likely never hear all the new music Williams composed. I get that it’s the last main Saga film (for now) so like cram callbacks down our throats, but just super disappointing.
