Btw I’m not in the camp to defend JJ lol. I just thought it was interesting but Weintraub posted two different versions of that tweet and deleted them both.

At this point, we can probably all safely assume, based on everyone's track record, that all parties involved in the making of this film, from Abrams to Terrio to Lucasfilm to Disney, had some wrong ideas on what to do w/ this. And, those wrong ideas probably differed & clashed w/ each other, adding another layer of bad to what already would've been bad ideas.

That tweet laying the blame on Kathleen Kennedy & Michelle Rejwan (long time Bad Robot producer, recently hired to Lucasfilm), but conveniently not Chris Terrio, w/ all the dumb comments he's made in recent interviews, or J.J. Abrams, or even Bob Iger or anyone at Disney, is pretty ridiculous, though. I mean, come on.

they can, but I think as much as that movie is rightfully lauded for a lot it set up, it’s become mostly empty. Like, the Rey flashback mystery box bullshit when she touches Luke’s lightsaber was clearly always meant by JJ to imply her important lineage. Kylo’s wrestling with the dark and light is all in Driver’s performance, almost none of it is written. There’s stuff you can do to make TFA a lot better and make whatever you chose to do in the conclusion hit harder.

It's still crazy to me that the first instinct with this movie was to bring back Palpatine as opposed to just keeping the most interesting and possibly most popular character from the new trilogy as the main villain.

On a positive note, this is a neat little detail (the bottom tweet)

The more time goes by the more I feel like this more hurts all of the Star Wars movies that came before it in huge ways. It was glaringly apparent to me how much this film retroactively hurts TLJ while I was watching it, but the more I think about what happened in this movie the more it undercuts the characters' arcs and stories from the original trilogy.

Yeah, there was no stupid time traveling here, but just magically having Palpatine back with no explanation accomplished the same thing as just sending the characters back in time. Oh wait, there was explanation - I forgot that Merry said "You know, dark magic, bad Sith stuff".

Time traveling would’ve been funnier at least imo. This was mostly just dumb and careless

  12. If they would have done something with the world between worlds it might get have been okay. And if it wasn't written by terrio and JJ.

I still havent seen this but... wonder if there will be media set between eps 8 and 9 since it seems like alot happens between them, sorta like with the prequels

Oh there's definitely going to be books, comics and shows that fill in the holes in this story. The Rise of Kylo Ren already plants the seeds of Bendemption. The first issue is really good though.

I know this is yet another Jenny tweet, but this is a good Rian quote about using the Knights of Ren.

Bringing back the real palps is the #1 decision that prevented this movie from being better. I thought with the trailer reveal that maybe he would be a ghost that messed with them in the Death Star , not be the main villain.

Or maybe he could have been a clone or creation or some other Sith who is trying to trick Rey into joining the dark side by falsely claiming she has a family and they were Palpatines. That’s still dumb, idk. But yeah I think bringing him back was the choice that doomed the movie from the start. Then it snowballed

If only Snoke wasn’t killed off with 10 mins of screen time then we wouldn’t have had a revived Palpatine

Nah, snoke’s death is perfect, making kylo the main villain. He should have just stayed the main villain.

The tension in 9 could have been that Rey & Leia are the ONLY ones that could get to kylo stop HIM from leading some horrible attack, instead of kylo being on weirdly the same mission as the good guys to find palps.
