I kind of can’t wait to read the novel for this. I have to assume it’ll be like all of the other novels and go more in-depth.

I heard someone say the other day that they thought it was obvious that everything with Palpatine in this movie was supposed to be Snoke if he hadn't died in TLJ and that had genuinely never occurred to me, do you guys think there's any truth to that? It kind of makes sense with some obvious changes but I also don't think they even started writing this movie until TLJ was already out

I saw this again the other night with some friends, and during the end part when that old lady asked Rey who she was and said "Rey who?", my friend leaned in and in the most serious, deadpan voice whispered "Rey Star Wars" and I almost fucking died laughing

As much as i like Dominic, he had no place in this at all. Every one of his lines could have been Rose’s.

I didn’t walk out thinking there was too little, but now I realize there should have been more. Weird flex to say “evil woman boss” too, as if people wouldn’t be saying the same thing if Kathleen was a man. It also wouldn’t be only KK making the decisions, it was most likely a board of people from Disney and Lucasfilms. Seems like an unwarranted twitter rant

Jenny Nicholson sure seems like she wants to keep talking about star wars

Yeah D-0 was great - not great enough to be around for an entire trilogy like BB8, but, definitely fun for the purpose of this small role. I will get a D-0 funko.

I get the joke. This is a good joke. But also, the awful editing and insanely fast pace ruined what actually did make it onto the screen for me. I will always fundamentally disagree with and loathe the main story choices that they made with this movie, but a longer cut that gives the scenes and characters more room to breathe would absolutely improve this film in a major way. For fucks sake, relegating the Palpatine stuff at the beginning to Fortnite and just starting with a choppy weightless and of no consequence action sequence gets the entire thing off on the wrong foot right away.

All of that being said, I am in no way advocating for the release of some kind of longer cut of this film. As far as I'm concerned, this film is an embarrassing failure of poor planning and mismanagement and should be forgotten about as soon as possible. JJ Abrams either likes this cut, or he was responsible for making such an asinine and shitty movie that cooler heads realized the only thing to do with it is chop the shit out of it as short as possible and just wow people with jokes and action.

In my mind, Palpatine never came back from the dead, Rey is not his grandaughter, the couple of cool action things that happened in this movie were just random adventures the characters had between TFA & TLJ, and TLJ wraps the story up nicely.

Yeah, for the same reason those of us here who hated this movie keep jumping in: a love of Star Wars.

It's the same reason I've posted more than anyone in the Far From Home thread, even though I very much so dislike that film.

I'm not sure that I'd reall wanna spend more time in this soulless fetch quest, though, y'know? If genuine character moments w/ genuine personality & heart were cut, that's one thing, but if it's just more exposition, action, & gags, it'd probably just be a lot more tedious.

If anything, I'd wanna see a shorter version of this. Like, maybe an hour & a half. Trim a bunch of the stupid plotting & teasing & whatever out, & let it just be a really short, stupid, fun mess that can run right through you. Though, at that point, I'm better off ignoring this & letting TLJ be the last episode for me.

A lot of the problems in this movie are problems with Abrams’ approach to storytelling on a fundamental level, to fix it you need to rewrite the script, there’s not an extended cut that would make all the flaws work

(You’d also have to rewrite chunks of TFA)

Don't agree w/ this part, as much as my opinion of that one has declined recently. Good writers can tell good stories building off of any starting point, imo. I mean, The Last Jedi pulled it off.

You'll actually find more disappointment than fandom around here for that film. That thread was a lot more negative when the film came out than much of Twitter, etc., was.
