I really didn't think that Lando scene was creepy... I took it as him wanting to hire her for his crew or something

It brings me no pleasure to admit I enjoyed this better a second time around. Probably because I saw it in a Dolby Cinema this time. But my expectations were tempered knowing the plot is already gonna be garbage, so I was able to focus on a lot of the great little moments I missed before. There's nothing that hits the highs of TFA or TLJ, but they are there.

The music that plays when Lando shows up with the reinforcement fleet is so good.

    Ugh.

There needed to be an entire movie bridging TLJ and this movie for it to work. And this movie probably needed to be three hours. There’s so much plot that happens there needed to be way more time and jumping right into the sudden return of freaking Palpatine sort of doomed this movie from the start. How do you just start there?!

IF that plot had been eased into, and was perhaps preceded by a darker Empire Strikes Back-esque entry, this would still be an uneven film, but it could have still been a great film. It would at least be coherent with the rest of the series. As it is, it’s just a mess.

Also, the ending would have been 100x more powerful to me if Rey died and Kylo Ren lived. I get it. Sacrifices and such. But it felt like a cheap out for his character. And not nearly as poignant for Rey.

And yet, for all I couldn’t stand about it, I enjoyed it immensely and would watch I again. That’s still a leg up on the prequels.

Babu Frick may be the most overrated part of this movie right now. Like, he’s fun. But it’s such a small part buried in such a mess that it really doesn’t stand out that much to me.

also, one of those Terrio interviews said Palpatine’s body on the Death Star 2 did indeed die. So, why is the body we see here so mangled? Why would he not chose literally anything other body to go in? Why does he need that apparatus if this isn’t the damaged body from the Death Star 2? Why does this movie suck so bad?

One theory I've read is that the Palpatine we see in TROS is the only "real" Palpatine and is like 1,000 years old, so his body is very decrepit at this point. The Palpatine we have seen thus far in all the movies, and the one that was killed in ROTJ, was a clone. So we have never actually met the real Palpatine until TROS.

Yea, Mike from RLM said that in their review and everyone else there was confused by it, but perhaps that is correct after all. That’s the kind of thing that should be explained in the movie. Like, we don’t need all the details, but something.

also, Sheev in 1-6 being a clone really changes how you look at him in those movies.

Yep, that's where I heard it. Idk, it's probably the best explanation for his appearance in this movie but would undercut his inclusion in all the previous movies in a weird way.

If he was a clone in 1-6, it really doesn’t fit that well with how clones are treated in the movies and the The Clone Wars. We are shown they are all differently talented, unique personalities, various strengths and such. So if Sheev was a clone, why is he the same as this Palpatine in terms of mind and strength? Was the clone merely a shell that was possessed? Either way, this only makes the blood and force connection even less interesting if you can just clone someone and they are just as powerful no matter what.

the more you learn about a movie should help you understand it. It shouldnt make everything make less sense. Ugh.

*whispers* Or maybe Palpatine's not a clone and they just didn't think it through

Also it's incredible to me how Palpy's plan totally would have worked if he didn't broadcast it to the entire galaxy beforehand. Hubris, amirite?

Edit: I know he didn't broadcast his entire plan, but him simply broadcasting his resurgence put his own downfall into motion. What a dork.
