yep. The movie leading off with two Jedi just basically being enforcers for the Republic when shit was going sideways had me hooked.

I was 12 when it came out and convinced my mom to let me see it by myself twice.

I still don’t give a shit about Jar Jar. Dude was just another silly annoying character to me. The lightsabering was enough for me haha

  3. I know but I've only seen it once so my memories are blurry. That line didn't get a strong reaction from my audience so I guess it wasn't as ridiculous as we all believe. "cool" makes more sense to me, but hopefully I'm not wrong lol

I can’t believe Terio thinks that separating Luke and Leia at birth was the original sin of the saga.

Wearing my Rian Johnson sweater to work today. I work in a board game store with incredibly nerdy people. Probably gonna trigger a few of them tbh

I've really been struggling to understand how this film was ultimately released as such a jumbled, unsatisfying mess, because I truly believe that JJ Abrams is a better director than that. The assured hand that guided so many great sequences in TFA seems to be almost completely absent here. The editing in particular really seems to actively work against the film and give everything a random and hyperactive feeling.

Now I know Disney tends to keep these types of things more locked down than most other companies and it could be several years before we learn this type of stuff if we ever do BUT I have read some stuff several times now that makes a lot of sense out of what happened with this movie. Apparently, Kathleen Kennedy was a huge fan of The Last Jedi and Rian Johnson and wanted to continue with where the story had been heading after that film but Bob Iger stepped in and decided this film was going to change a lot of that, decided Palpatine should come back for this one, forced a lot of story decisions on this one. Even all the way up to post-production, there is a rumor that this cut of TROS that was released is the one that Bob Iger is happy with and that JJ Abrams is said to be less than pleased with it, with some people going so far as to say that he 'hates' it.

I realize at this point in time there is no way to know how much if any of this is actually true. But I can tell you that when I watch the movie this scenario makes a whole lot of sense, while almost every single thing JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio have said at press junkets sounds like complete horseshit and doesn't at all match up with what you see on screen.

so now that it's established canon that Force Ghost Luke can hold a lightsaber, how long til we see him in battle? lol

How force ghosts work is the least of this movie’s problems. If force ghost Obi-Wan can sit on a log, Luke can catch a saber

Source on the Bob Iger stuff? I remember reading somewhere prior to its release that he was a big TLJ fan.

Honestly, the only force power I really have an issue with in the movie is Sheev's mega lightning. I rolled my eyes so hard at that.

I mean, I've felt all the physical interactions with the real world that force ghosts have had has been weird and out of place, but him physically holding a lightsaber just felt so, I don't know, extra weird to me. Like, Obi-Wan could be uncomfortably hovering to make Luke not feel weird lol

I'm a terrible journalist. Basically people on Reddit and someone responding to an article about this production, but going back now I can't even find that article.

No worries. I doubt there'd be any confirmed source of this anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the decisions in this came from Bob though. Some things (like Kylo's mask) don't really seem to serve any purpose to the story and just seem like a studio decision/ "hey, we need a new toy to sell" type deal.

I am absolutely without doubt that Bob Iger had nothing to do with the editing of this movie. There's lots of wild speculation coming out about the production of this movie and we should probably be taking anything we read on Reddit with a grain of salt.

He's got a lot more important things to do than micro manage a movie. Iger wasn't in an editing room for hours trying to get things right on the film. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

That makes sense I guess. I had also heard that he has been heavily involved and very hands-on with The Mandalorian, so I supposed it made sense that he had just taken a more hands-on approach to all things Star Wars lately.

I still find it pretty hard to believe that a producer of Kathleen Kennedy's talent can watch this film and feel like it works and is a success.

Force ghosts, uh, using the force makes a lot more sense than catching things with their hands
