If by "the worst" you mean "the only add on that actually had some story potential that'd be worth exploring in a good version of this film," then sure. Of course, like literally everything else, she wasn't quite done well, but dang, they could've written such a good subplot around this whole ex trooper concept. Plus, space horses on a star destroyer is a dope visual.

Sorry, it's EITHER Keri, KMT, OR Naomi. Still a zero-sum equation though.

ehh, those quotes from Terrio could be interpreted in a few ways. It sounds like Kathy wanted them to hit certain story beats like Bendemption and JJ came up with Palps as being the key. He never explicitly says, "that was Kathy's idea".

Whether it was Kennedy's idea specifically or not, she still signed off on it. It truly cannot be emphasized enough that literally nothing big picture related to Star Wars happens without her approval. She's just as much responsible for it as Terrio and JJ are.

I'm not saying she doesn't deserve any blame here. Because at the end of the day, you're right she did sign off on this absolutely dreadful script.

I mean, you do realize that there's not unlimited narrative space in a single movie, right?

With how popular narratives like "too many villains" in superhero films, etc., are, it's really weird to see people defend misguided new additions to the Episode IX puzzle, regardless of how wonderful the actors involved are. Story should be the driving principle here.

    Speaking of story...

AD: One thing that’s fairly pervasive right now is the buzz around Kelly Marie Tran’s reduced role in The Rise of Skywalker when compared to The Last Jedi. Tell me about working through her role in the final film.

CT: Well, first of all, J.J. and I adore Kelly Marie Tran. One of the reasons that Rose has a few less scenes than we would like her to have has to do with the difficulty of using Carrie’s footage in the way we wanted to. We wanted Rose to be the anchor at the rebel base who was with Leia. We thought we couldn’t leave Leia at the base without any of the principals who we love, so Leia and Rose were working together. As the process evolved, a few scenes we’d written with Rose and Leia turned out to not meet the standard of photorealism that we’d hoped for. Those scenes unfortunately fell out of the film. The last thing we were doing was deliberately trying to sideline Rose. We adore the character, and we adore Kelly – so much so that we anchored her with our favorite person in this galaxy, General Leia.

...I'm sorry, but this is such bullshit, lol, come on.

idk, TLJ introduced us to Rose AND Holdo AND DJ AND still had enough time left over to give Connix an expanded role, plus reintroduced us to a new version of Luke Skywalker while also having enough time to give Rey, Finn, Kylo, and Poe their own arcs, so clearly it's possible to introduce new characters and have it work in a way that doesn't require us to pick and choose which women we need to cut out of a movie from a film franchise that hasn't historically had an abundance of important women characters. Just my take tho *shrug*

Much like "Finn wanted to tell Rey he's Force-sensitive", that really doesn't pass the smell test at all. Saying "we wrote Rose into a corner without realizing it and sadly had to cut a lot of her scenes against our wishes" is so obviously false because they knew exactly what Leia footage they had to work with. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Oh fuck off, lol. Let's not play in this ankle-deep Hollywood feminist nonsense, the same noise that treated this film's female second unit director & background lesbian kiss as big moments.

The scenes we did get with Rose in the film generally included Leia though so...

I wouldn’t jump to calling them liars on this.

I do this while fully acknowledging that TROS is not worse than TPM, but:

    The entire score is phenomenal
    The podrace
The groundbreaking visual effects for the time, specifically Jar Jar being the first all-CGI character in a live-action film
    The final lightsaber duel
The production design is really interesting and (other than Tatooine, obiovusly) unlike anything we had seen in Star Wars up to then

Quin-Gon giving lessons to Obi-Wan and obi-wan being a smart ass young guy
    Darth Maul speeder attack
Emperor Palpatine as “just” Darth Sidious
Duel of the Fates possibly the best music of the franchise
    Darth Maul/Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon fight

Like you'll never catch me saying there are no redeeming qualities to the prequels, there are lots of them. They're just not assembled in a competent way because George is a way better ideas man than he is an actual writer/director. Or at least he was a great ideas man at one pre-midichlorians point lol

I'm just gonna say this once. If y'all are gonna fixate on small details out of context anyways, that's on you.

Hollywood is to feminism as Joel Osteen is to Christianity.

why would I need to name 5 lol

I can say that I at least genuinely enjoyed the last third of that film. I’m struggling to find a single thing I like about this one. I guess it looked pretty for the most part

but if you want a list it’s dual of the fates 5 times. You can tell me something from this can hang with that, but you’d be wrong.

We can be critical of representation, especially in mainstream, Disney blockbusters with how they are extremely, extremely careful about picking and choosing when and how to use non-white, non-male "representation". In those cases it's maybe even more important to highlight how underwritten and poorly constructed non-white, non-male characters are. Keri Russell has her own goals and dreams that she needs a magic coin to achieve, and gives them up with no dramatization for her ex-boyfriend. She's not a good character.
