Look, I care a heck of a lot more about Kelly Marie Tran than Keri Russell. Give me all the Lucille gifs you want, but I'll still be right. *shrug*

 

Give me a Poe and Zorii series.

 

Being weirdly dismissive of an incredibly talented person who did nothing except appear in a small but memorable and enjoyable role seems counterintuitive as a Rose fan, but I’ve been surprised in this thread before.

 

This thread makes me feel weird for not caring about Rose as a character that much lol

 

She isn’t even one of my favorite characters and I could still feel myself getting angry watching how they sidelined her. There are so many missteps in this movie but that’s one of the worst. I can’t imagine future viewings would make me feel any kinder about it.

 

How’s it counterintuitive?

Look, I basically hate everything about how JJ approached this film, to the point where I’ve literally put him in the same mental space as Bay & Snyder now (at least creatively). And, the only reason Keri or Dominic were shoved into this garbage heap was ‘cause they’re his friends, even though they add nothing & in fact represent major shortcomings to the script. She could be Florence Pugh, & I’d still hate her character.

 

Abrams and Snyder haven’t made movies as good as Bay’s best

 

Connix could be anyone. Lando didn’t need to be there. Dominic Monaghan didn’t need to be there or Greg Grunberg again...for what they did with Rose and Hux, they didn’t need to be there either. Anybody could have taken the roles of those characters in this particular movie.

 

MI:3 is great.

 

Bad Boys II is the best Michael Bay film followed by Pearl Harbor. *ducks*

 

It’s a zero-sum calculus, you see, it’s EITHER Keri Russell OR KMT, but it absolutely CAN’T be both

 

I barely even see anyone else acknowledge him much so I guess I'm in a kind of minority with this but I really think Poe/Oscar Isaac is a consistent highlight of this trilogy

 

Oscar Isaac is always terrific - I've never seen him give even a slightly subpar performance. Poe as a character is... fine, he's basically just another Han, but he has some great moments when they actually invest in him

 

Yeah...idgaf about Rose lol just give me more guy love between Finn and Poe. Anything in the film that isn’t then is whatever.

 

i kinda think it’s his best but he still manages to get in its way a lot. the plot is incomprehensible. i honestly think it’s only as good as it is because cruise and PSH are both at 11

 

Keri Russell is my president. Apologies to KMT, who is great.

 

Yikes, who knew so many people cared about such a non-character. I know this is the franchise that gave us Boba Fett & Captain Phasma, but still. I mean, if I had to care about one of these new JJ additions, I'd pick Jannah before Zorii, lol; at least she has story potential.

Apparently the Keri Russell love is enough to make people buy into a character who's just there (other than the JJ factor) to keep Poe from being gay.

 

Oh wait, she's also there 'cause expanding Wookieepedia articles is how you tell stories in Star Wars, my bad.

 

Man, I've gotten so bitter about this film recently, lol, sorry.

 

I think Rose serves as a nice foil for Finn in a lot of ways. Sure, Finn's arc pretty much stopped progressing after TLJ but that's on Abrams and the writers for this film. Rose gives us a glance of what it was like to live on a peaceful planet before the FO took over and the consequences that her family felt at the rise of its power, which spurred both her and her sister to join the Resistance. It's not always about the ace fighter pilot or the generals on the bridge, you gotta have the grunts who are minding the escape pods.

I'm probably stretching her character a little, but I think she's not entirely pointless. She did end up just that in this film but again, that's not on her character. That's just poor writing.

 

Horse girl was by far the worst add on...
