Ugh the phantom menace when it starts talking about taxes and shit. Just riveting.

 

I like that the Empire crawl lies and says Luke is leading the Rebels.

 

I mean I’m not a Star Wars fanboy so I think the crawls are lame. It could be the abcs for all I care. Much bigger probs going on here than that lol

 

I guess I need to watch Clone Wars and Rebels now huh

Agreed. The sequence on Kijimi is one of the better parts for me. I like that we actually get to see the terror the First Order is inflicting on the galaxy through this planet. Zorii's intro is fun with great banter between all the actors. All the Babu stuff & humor with C-3PO works for me. The beat of him saying, "oh I just thought of another way!" and then getting his memory wiped cracks me up in a dark way. Poe & Zorii's roof convo is solid too.

 

one of the very few beats I liked in this movie was Poe wordlessly asking for a kiss and then shrugging off the no at the end. great work by Oscar Isaac

 

Zorii & Frick should've been cut from this awful script tbh.

 

For real. I’m just stealing this idea from Jenny’s video. But cutting even just one of the many planets in the first hour would have helped it breathe a lot more and maybe allow those events to have some significance. If 3PO could just translate the text, Kojimi and the characters there are pointless. Just have Rey sense Chewie earlier Since he is still on Pasaana when they are anyway.

There are so so so many much, much larger problems with this script though... Like foundational story problems. I agree that better writing would have made these characters kinda superfluous, and also that there were plenty of other already underutilized characters in this trilogy already, but I did enjoy both of these characters. It seems like a shame to cut anything good out of a mess of so much bad. I'm torn.

 

Just make the actual movie good, & you won't be looking for shallow enjoyment out of a podracing reject & an excuse for Abrams to put his old Felicity lead in a Star War.

 

what's the deal with the chronological Clone Wars order, did it get Firefly'd when it first aired? I've never seen it but Genndy's Clone Wars fucking slaps so I kinda wanna check it out

 

Keri Russell has all my respect after The Americans. I will admit I had never seen her in anything else before though. The true crime here is hiding her behind a helmet and robbing us of that forehead vein!

There was definitely no reason for kojimi to be in this at all, but imo it was way more interesting than another desert planet or Endor again

 

Keri Russell is fine I'm sure, but she just shouldn't have been in this film. You already had Rey, Kylo, Finn, Poe, Rose, Leia, Lando, Connix, Hux, arguably Luke, etc. to work with. But, hey, maybe they could've had Abrams create a Star Wars show for Disney+ starring her that he wouldn't finish, instead of letting him make this cynical mess. *shrug*
