For some reason I’m tweeting with Reylo’s and it keeps coming up that “Ben killed Snoke for Rey.”

You know, not because he was manipulated, absused, and used by Snoke and that Kylo wanted power and darkness.

I want to sit these people down and ask them to control their horniness and to pay attention to the movie this time.

 

Ended up recording roughly 3 hours of podcasts on this movie and the future of Star Wars. Spending today editing it so I can get both episodes out on Tuesday. So much Star Wars Talk lately and only have more to come now that The Mandalorian wrapped up S1.

Preached this morning in my “directed by Rian Johnson” sweatshirt this morning, included a dig at Rise of Skywalker (I was covering the end of Acts & said I hoped I’d stick the landing better), & also had a joke about how Star Wars fans online would hate Acts’ unresolved Paul plot line.

Y’know, just sharing the good news of good Star Wars.

There’s stuff in this that’s prequel level bad.

“The dead speak!” sounds interesting, imo. Not sure why people dislike it so much.

 

“The dead speak” introduces a character who none of our protagonists have ever met with no dramatization of how he’s back or why he matters. I’m not gonna relitigate all the stuff in this movie that sucks because there’s a lot of it and I’ve seen a few good movies lately and would rather think about them but honestly, truly, there is stuff in this movie that is as bad as much of the bad stuff about the prequels.

 

Oh, I thought you just meant the phrase itself was bad. I agree that it’s dumb to bring him back in the crawl.

No one is asking anyone to relitigate why this isn't any good. Just what about it is worse than the prequels.

 

I didn’t say worse, I said “as bad”. I was careful with my wording on purpose. I’m not saying this movie is worse than any of the prequels, that’d be tough. But it sure is bad and just thinking about everything narratively involving Palpatine legitimately exhausts my brain as much as many of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

 

The phrase is bad though. Makes it sound like it’s going to be some kind of zombie movie or something. Might as well have just said PALPATINE speaks. This is coming from someone who liked the movie.

 

I def agree with him. Like I said...some of it was down right farcical to me.

 

I just disagree. It takes a six/seven season cartoon series to give legitimacy to the prequels.

This isn't great but I'll watch this over any prequel if asked to choose.

 

I agree with this statement 100% but I do think that overall just as a movie TROS works better than any of the prequels.

Randomly bringing Palpatine back at this point in the trilogy when it was clearly never the purpose or where this story was going is prequel level bad; the decision to make Rey a Palpatine is as bad as any terrible awful thing in the prequels; the editing in this film is on par with the acting by the young actors in the prequels; the disservice this film pays to the awesome character of Kylo Ren by having him play second fiddle to Palpatine when he should be the supreme leader of the bads rivals the prequels turning Anakin into a whiny bratty teenager; Finn as a character goes nowhere and wastes John Boyega; the OBVIOUS to any adult watching the film 'fuck yous' to Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi upset me more than the awful character of Jar Jar Binks because they are intentional and cynical and show a filmmaker who really doesn't respect or think much of fans of this series of films; the sidelining of Kelly Marie Tran's character is absolutely 100% inexcusable and horrendous in the real world outside of a galaxy far, far away.

Some of the acting and writing was just so poor. So many random ass scenes and quick cuts to random shit. A seemingly completely different Luke just saying shit to legitimize her being who she is...it all wreaked of desperation and reaches to me. The fact it doesn’t work on any real level makes it as bad. The first hour was like a music video lol I wanted to leave.
