I didn’t mean to imply it was bad to learn from experience. I simply mean that it is less about figuring something out because you’re clever and more that he remembered something. Neither is bad, but one speaks more to the character than the other to me.

I just saw it for the second time. I really disliked it after the first viewing but I have to say I enjoyed it a lot this time. I think I just was able to go in with the mindset of enjoying it for what it was instead of critiquing every decision. Don’t get me wrong I still disagree with a lot but I was able to appreciate it so much more and just listen to the music and feel the emotion. I even found myself teary eyed at the end whereas the first time I was just frustrated. Maybe the last time seeing Star Wars on the big screen for a long time so I was really happy I had that experience.

8.7/10 on IMDb and a one word answer is your explanation? Did you just not like it?

I mean, they’ve gotta be preparing to announce a new animated show soon. I don’t think it would be that surprising if we get a show set in between ROTJ and TFA that features the OG characters.

edit: plus we are getting a Skywalker in Clone Wars in just a couple months.

Finally saw this today and although I really enjoyed it overall and am pretty okay with it being the “finale” of the series, there were some pretty glaring issues too

    Pros:
-Beautiful visuals, some of the best ever in Star Wars. I particularly loved the Sith planet’s aesthetic
-Still love these characters and their chemistry, and really loved the choice to have the main characters together for most of the movie
-I either liked or could get behind most of the plot points in the movie, even if the execution left something to be desired
-More on this in the cons, but I did end up really liking how they used the Emperor and I liked how creepy they made him, like almost a horror villain at this point
-I’m pretty sure the Han scene would have been Leia if Carrie was still alive but I actually really liked it, it was cool how it mirrored their last meeting and I loved seeing the character one last time
-Was also awesome to see Lando again. Billy Dee’s voice is still exactly the same
-Ending was fantastic. In fact I really liked the whole last like half hour of the movie

    Cons:
-The Emperor. Why the fuck was he in this? Why did they offer literally no explanation as to why he was back? Doesn’t the mere fact that he still exists and is back to his old shenanigans kind of render Anakin’s entire arc in the OT useless? And he fucks? I actually didn’t hate the granddaughter aspect of the plot once it sunk in but I never thought of him as anything but like an evil being but apparently he’s also just a father lol
-The editing felt like it was moving lightning fast, especially in the first half of the movie, which was almost edited like a trailer. A lot of scenes were given literally no time to breathe, I’m pretty sure there were like three separate set pieces already by the 15 minute mark of the movie
-Kylo’s story was good for the most part even though I really didn’t want him going back to the light side, and once I was onboard with him being good again I actually liked how he died, but WHY did they have to kiss? That was so fucking unnecessary, especially because he immediately died afterwards. And why did he have zero lines once he turned? And this might have actually ended up being hacky, haven’t decided yet, but it could have been kind of cool to see him standing with Luke and Leia at the end
-Doesn’t the whole force healing concept kind of ruin a lot of deaths in the series? Why couldn’t Obi-Wan have saved Qui-Gon, or even Luke saved Vader on the Death Star? Or especially fucking Anakin saving Padme? I guess I could buy the concept that not many Jedi can pull it off but why can Rey of all people, and then Kylo literally bringing her back from the dead at the end? Also, this isn’t really a con but Rey just basically becoming the best Jedi of all time, mastering like every single power was kind of out of nowhere
-It actually doesn’t invalidate TLJ as much as I feared it would but I really didn’t like what they did with Hux and Rose
-It felt like the movie lacked guts. Rey accidentally killing Chewie with the lighting would have actually been really cool and really drove home her struggle with the dark side, as sad as it would have been. There was also no real reason to give C-3P0 his memories back. And wtf was Finn gonna tell Rey?
-This isn’t really the movie’s fault, but most of the Carrie scenes kind of reminded me of that episode from S6 of Community where Chang gets famous from a commercial and they edit the sci-fi movie together using random footage. I do think it ended up working okay overall story-wise but I don’t think I will ever be able to watch this movie and not be taken out of it by those parts

It probably sounds like I hated it but overall I really enjoyed it and still got that classic Star Wars feeling that I only get from these movies, and I think it’s a good enough ending. I almost feel like if this got an extended edition it would improve some of my issues too. I’d say it’s a solid B-. Definitely the weakest of the ST but not bad

I’m sure most of this has been discussed in here ad nauseam but I haven’t read the thread yet, sorry

I’m all for more Skywalkers. Star Wars just seems like it would be odd to me if we never got the Skywalkers again in some way, shape or form in the future.

Even though we have talked the movie to death in here (and I did enjoy the film), hearing them run down the plot on Binge Mode has me seriously like wtf? Is that how people felt when they read the spoilers? Something about hearing it verbalized out loud makes you truly appreciate how terrible the plot is. They read this out loud and thought “yeah this is it”.
