haha, maybe. I have some criticisms of this movie that I've outlined previously in this thread. I've just decided to enjoy it for what it is. I'm a much more casual movie watcher than most of y'all it seems (I know like, 5 movie directors by name), so I'm far from a critic. Might be time for me to bow out from this thread.

Yeah this movie wasn't even fun. I wish it felt like a breezy Indy-esque adventure movie. But it's such a slog.

Disney is coming for us all. Only a matter of time.

What’s funny to me is the mental gymnastics people do simply because it’s a Star Wars movie. If it was any other sci-fi/fantasy movie you’d probably have no issue pointing out the flaws and acknowledging that it’s bad but, because it’s Star Wars, justifications are made. I get it. It truly sucks that this movie is kind of a pile of garbage. I really wish it weren’t. But it is and that’s that, unfortunately.

But also, I think it’s totally fine if you enjoy this movie. I love Prometheus. But I also know that it’s horribly stupid

I was telling my friends and my brother the other day that TROS is the Star Wars movie we would have come up with when we were 10 taking turns saying "wouldn't it be cool if"

$32 million on Christmas day makes it the second biggest of all time.

It’s so interesting to me that both Marvel and Lucasfilm are owned by Disney. They both answer to the same corporate master and have access to massive resources, but Marvel manages to consistently create a pretty airtight product - even if they’re not “art”, they’re expertly produced, well-cast, and all tie into each other pretty well. They’re products, but at least they’re high-quality products.

Then along comes Star Wars, arguably an even more valuable franchise, and it’s like it was led by the dumb Rick from Rick and Morty. It fails in almost every way the Marvel movies don’t. Careless writing, shoddy world-building, actors who seem bored at best, and films that are actively at war with whichever film came before it. It’s incredible.

Man the crazy ass vitriol directed towards Rose is so insane.

Someone I’m fighting with on Twitter is telling me Boba Fett was VITAL to the plot of empire while all Rose did was waste screen time. Ugh.

Am I crazy? Or is this movie like if Harry Potter used the killing curse at the end rather than Expelliarmus?

i'm definitely not as #TeamRose as some folks in here are, but she served a legitimate role in TLJ. Fett was never more than a story accessory in the OT.

He did serve a little more of a purpose in ESB, when the Falcon detached from the star destroyer with the garbage and went to Cloud City, Boba followed them. Otherwise you would think that would've gone down a lot differently.

Maybe, but Vader's meeting with the bounty hunters suggests Fett wasn't the only one contracted to find the falcon, it just so happened to be Fett who did. I think the way things went down on Bespin was more driven by Lando's betrayal than Fett finding them.

How do we know the Empire didn’t tell him to stay behind? The character himself didn’t really do anything to show why he of all characters figured it out.

Now, with the prequels, we know it’s because he saw Obiwan do it. So even with that, he wasn’t clever. He just remembered something like 25(?) years ago.

True. I had honestly forgotten about Boba in ESB so I figured others might have too and thought it worth mentioning. The only reason people associate him more with SW than Rose is how long he's been around and how well his toys sold. His dad was much more integral to the story of AOTC.

Learning from experience isn’t a bad thing... wouldn’t it be worse if instead he fell for the same trick that his dad fell for?

that being said, of course it’s dumb because it wouldn’t be a thing if they never made the prequels
