The one thing I’m not gonna harp on them too much for the Leia scenes. Was it perfect? No but I thought it was all handled with care despite the lines feeling a little clunky for obvious reasons.

Just gimme a trilogy of Werner Herzog narrating a collection of clips of the three trilogies.

again, i agree. i like all three of these movies more than 75-90% of MCU ones. but they make the same amount of money and seem to be less of a production headache, leading them to be able to churn out double the amount of movies in half the time. idk. i feel like they brought him on for a reason.

the leia stuff isn’t what i want by any means, but it’s also kind of an impossible situation for the filmmakers and could have been so much worse

I’m not a huge fan of this series though I’ve seen every movie besides Solo. I obviously went in with a little bit of a negative bias because of that and all the bad reviews. That said, I just left from this one and I must say this was my least favorite one of the last few years. It was really quite boring and littered with plot holes and I kept waiting for it to end.

  11. I much prefer Star Wars, but it’s rare for an MCU movie to make a decision that has me just groan as loud as I can.

I wouldn’t be surprised is they skip that 2022 window and instead the next movie arrives on 2024. Five years feels like a good gap. I hope the critical reception to this convinced them to stick with Rian. I’m guessing it’ll be Favreau to be honest.

2022 is still a decent amount of time tho

The more I’ve sat on this, not much has stood out besides the fight on the bridge, some of the nice one-liners, and that’s about it. It was a nice movie to look at too, but didn’t come close to TLJ in terms of incredible shots that Rian was able to capture and the emotional impacts he was able to convey. Just a real bummer, but at least we get a new Mando this week!

I’m just now realizing how much this ties into a lot of the movie’s problems, lol. Like how he took lines away from both Rose (a main character in the last film) & Connix (played by the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher) so that his buddy Dominic could be in a Star War. Or Keri Russell’s pointless character.

He really made this film for himself & no one else, & not in the artistic sense.

Anyways, it’s Christmas & I’m rewatching The Farewell & waiting for the breakfast pizza to be ready & I still can’t quit this dumbass film, happy birthday Jesus.

It’s just amazing that he’s openly admitted he can’t stick the landing, has proven time and time again that he can’t, and he’s still given the keys to these massive franchises. I truly think he does a great job launching ideas but between Lost, Star Trek, and this (really the only things of his I really dug into) I just don’t trust him.

Ultimately, I hope they give these more talented directors a legit chance. Let them dig into the vast canon and tell really cool, different stories.

I’d argue Abrams made this film for the fans of VII and for himself

Remember when the Walt Disney Company gave Taika Waititi, Rian Johnson, & Ryan Coogler tentpole films based on major intellectual properties, released over a 4-month period? And, a month later, a family/kids film by Ava DuVernay.

At least we’re getting a Marvel film by Chloé Zhao next year, which is still wild to me. Wonder what someone w/ such a Malick-inspired style will feel like when filtered through a studio w/ basically opposite sensibilities. Really hoping for some moments in that one that actually feel like her.

That’s the one I’m most interested in, even though I haven’t seen her films yet
