Clearly TFA was more front loaded given its much higher weekend box office. For whatever reason, people waited to see this or decided to after word of mouth or something else.

  2. Good word of mouth over the weekend and not much competition helped Monday. Still lagging early expectations though, which is strange. Curious if it'll end up topping TLJ or not, it'd need a really good second weekend.

I doubt it will top TLJ. ROS opening weekend was too low, but I would like to see the film at least cross $1 billion.

I hope they don’t reach expectations and get punished for the shitty movie they released.

These bad faith assumptions of actor's feelings towards a movie or role based upon out of context snippets of interviews popping up are...not great. I am having GoT flashbacks.

To be clear, I'm not talking about here, more about Twitter and probably Reddit though I don't visit there.

Some of my favorite moments were with C3-PO:

"Babu Frik? Oh he's my oldest friend."

"Is this the afterlife? Are droids allowed?"

Every time he opened his mouth I laughed. Loved him so much in this.

Yeah, they do have expectations for themselves.

I’m just saying that wishing this movie doesn’t do well sounds like Star Wars reddit fans when TLJ came out

Yea... I still want it to do well. Solo’s middling box office made it so an Obiwan film didn’t happen. Now, maybe the series will be better as it will have more time to do more. But I do wish I could have seen Ewan on the big screen again as Obiwan.

so while this movie is not great, I’d rather it do well so they don’t back off more movies.

If that's how you chose to perceive it.

They're not going to back off movies because this movie doesn't eclipse $1B. Give me a break.
I want them to know that they can't release a bad Star Wars movie without repercussions.
But sure, paint it as irrational anger.

  13. Definitely would rather have this do well and Disney figure out how to get different filmmakers involved than it to do poorly and just not make more films

They have already altered their plans based on box office. Assuming they wouldn’t again is weird.

there will always be Star Wars movie, but how many and how frequently will change based on box office among other factors.

We all know that if it doesn’t reach expectations the only people that will face the consequences will be the common employees at Lucasfilm and not Kennedy, Abrams, Igor, or Terrio.

I hope they do alter their plans. That's the point of my desire.
I'm just saying, to say they'd stop making films is silly. But perhaps the frequency they're currently pushing them out is the problem. Two prequels and a poorly made movie did not meet or exceed expectations. Maybe they should look into that.

  18. I don't think Kennedy should face any repruscssions

she’s 100% gonna get replaced with feige

  20. She has three over 1 billion gross star wars movies, probably a 4th with this one, has the success of the mandalorian, will have the obi wan show, she's been incredible

Yea, the smaller less significant characters can be anyone. But if you want to be the main character you gotta be related to someone.

Kennedy isn’t blameless in this, she runs Lucasfilm and she’s the one who allowed them to go flying blind into a new trilogy with no plan. She had final say over everything so she deserves blame for what this became.

That said, she won’t face any repercussions because it’s still going to make a ton of money. And the money is all that matters in the end.

i don’t disagree. they’ve also had production issues and have fired directors on basically every movie that’s come out since the merger haha. maybe they won’t do anything. them already bringing on feige when they essentially do the same job doesn’t bode well though

  24. We will see. I'll give feige credit for navigating a ton of stories and getting everything to one place with endgame but I would argue most marvel movies are bad so then what's the difference.

Kennedy is doing fine but as someone who dislikes nearly every Star Wars movie released under her and loves Phil Lord & Christopher Miller I cant say I find her work so far to be particularly engaging
